If you do, I would be scared

Guest bluprinturbo Guests Posted 26/05/07 12:48 PM Share Posted 26/05/07 12:48 PM Well. what can I say.. 25000k's of abuse, current tune of 300+ rwkw, and the auto decided it wasnt happy.Prior to putting my nizpro gear on, with power of approx 280rwkw, I noticed a strange "whiney" noise when I locked the transmission into 1st gear.. Not wanting to know about it, I just turned the stereo up and left it in drive..weeks later after my nizpro gear went on, I locked it in 1st again (not downgearing, just standing, small acceleration and decell again, without the revs going over 3500rpm), and the noise I once heard had grown into a grinding / whineing noise.. Ouch I thought.. Later that night, attempted reverse gear, and it bound up, but then it worked later. I decided I didnt want to use reverse gear no more.. Got it home, and tried reverse.. Just as I thought, It was somewhat binding up, then grinding like I was driving over crushed rock... Ouch.. So, since the car was still somewhat driveable, I drove the car to Bayswater Automatics, Having delt with Grant in the past, he was somewhat interested to see what I had broken given the power I was making.. He already knew it was the plantery's, as they ahve changed millions in BA Taxi's.Anyways, In the hands of Grant, Tim and Phil, they replaced the plantery's with early V8 AU plantery's (with associated sun gear and drum), washed and inspected all the parts. They also replaced the C1 clutchpack, as this was neutourious for burning like they have, due to they believe the oil seals around the shaft not being good enough, which is how the pressure gets transfered to the C1 piston.Whilst my box was out, I told them to modify the convertor to give me more stall. As some of you's might be aware, Grant used to work at Autoflite/Dominator.. So convertors is exactly what he knows.. So, Retaining the lockup in the convertor, I am able to stall upto 2500rpm without wheelspin on street tyres.. however the car still drives like standard with a hint of extra rpm, which you wouldnt notice unless you were told..My 2nd/4th band was in excellant condition, and they believes there is enough clamping force commanded from the tuning (notice I said clamping force, not shift ramp speed), and suggested I try getting more into the 3rd gear shift, but he said you will find its very hard to get a good hard shift out of 3rd.. I tried, and well its somewhat better, but he was right.Anyways, total cost of the repair with the AU plantery's, and the convertor was well under $1400, which I was surprised. I was expecting the repair to be closer to that without the convertor.I Highly recommend Bayswater automatics to anyone who ever finds themselves in the situation I'm in.. They took care of my pride n joy like it was their own.Contact details, Grant, or Tim 03 9729 9155 (if you do contact them, mention danny sent ya..)This is part of the auto trans, the right hand shaft being the output shaftSun gears, Both of these gears go into the plantary.Inside look of the planterysOutside look of the planterys and the Drum. Notice the marks where the band comes in contact with the drum is still goodThe broken gears of the planteryAnother pic, without flashpieces of broken teeth were jammed and crushed in the outter carrierC1 Clutch pack, notice the burns on the metal. This is the clutch pack used for 3rd gear. Mind you my 3rd gear was fine, no slipping, just not a hard shift. even with new clutches, its a very hard clutch to get good firm shifts out of.. although I tried gday danny just wondering how the box is holding up.ive got a similar problem.whine in first then when I nail it something grinds/rattles.also seems down on power when changing 1st to 2nd.not really sure if its the box or diff.anyway as you know no ones doing any good things with the btr here in brizzy and like the sound of what you had done.am considering a trip down.are the au v8 planetries heaps tougher?thanks mate.chris. BUT they are not as brittle.. That's what I've heard..
