Well. what can I say.. 25000k's of abuse, current tune of 300+ rwkw, and the auto decided it wasnt happy.

Prior to putting my nizpro gear on, with power of approx 280rwkw, I noticed a strange "whiney" noise when I locked the transmission into 1st gear.. Not wanting to know about it, I just turned the stereo up :) and left it in drive..

weeks later after my nizpro gear went on, I locked it in 1st again (not downgearing, just standing, small acceleration and decell again, without the revs going over 3500rpm), and the noise I once heard had grown into a grinding / whineing noise.. Ouch I thought.. Later that night, attempted reverse gear, and it bound up, but then it worked later. I decided I didnt want to use reverse gear no more.. Got it home, and tried reverse.. Just as I thought, It was somewhat binding up, then grinding like I was driving over crushed rock... Ouch..

So, since the car was still somewhat driveable, I drove the car to Bayswater Automatics, Having delt with Grant in the past, he was somewhat interested to see what I had broken given the power I was making.. He already knew it was the plantery's, as they ahve changed millions in BA Taxi's.

Anyways, In the hands of Grant, Tim and Phil, they replaced the plantery's with early V8 AU plantery's (with associated sun gear and drum), washed and inspected all the parts. They also replaced the C1 clutchpack, as this was neutourious for burning like they have, due to they believe the oil seals around the shaft not being good enough, which is how the pressure gets transfered to the C1 piston.

Whilst my box was out, I told them to modify the convertor to give me more stall. As some of you's might be aware, Grant used to work at Autoflite/Dominator.. So convertors is exactly what he knows.. So, Retaining the lockup in the convertor, I am able to stall upto 2500rpm without wheelspin on street tyres.. however the car still drives like standard with a hint of extra rpm, which you wouldnt notice unless you were told..

My 2nd/4th band was in excellant condition, and they believes there is enough clamping force commanded from the tuning (notice I said clamping force, not shift ramp speed), and suggested I try getting more into the 3rd gear shift, but he said you will find its very hard to get a good hard shift out of 3rd.. I tried, and well its somewhat better, but he was right.

Anyways, total cost of the repair with the AU plantery's, and the convertor was well under $1400, which I was surprised. I was expecting the repair to be closer to that without the convertor.

I Highly recommend Bayswater automatics to anyone who ever finds themselves in the situation I'm in.. They took care of my pride n joy like it was their own.

Outside look of the planterys and the Drum. Notice the marks where the band comes in contact with the drum is still good

pieces of broken teeth were jammed and crushed in the outter carrier

C1 Clutch pack, notice the burns on the metal. This is the clutch pack used for 3rd gear. Mind you my 3rd gear was fine, no slipping, just not a hard shift. even with new clutches, its a very hard clutch to get good firm shifts out of.. although I tried :)

Ohh, and considering my car is just over 1 year old, and has 25000k's on it, with 4 years of warentee to go, I have not abused ford, and attempted a warentee claim. I strongly believe in, You play, you pay.

Why would you want to get a std replacement box when it will break again? :)

Danny.

Farrrk I've been holding off going up to 300 odd due to lack of funds but also I cant afford to have a box go, fark fark fark so many have gone latley, what happened to this thread beside a lot of cropped bullsh*t - Alternative 4sp auto gearbox

I've seen posts latly of guys going thru 6 gearbox rebuilds, and others blowing supposedly strenthed boxes in under 5000k now sh*t if I forked out over 2-3k for a stenrthend gearbox and it blew in under 5k I'd be pissed but I'd also understand that the fecking 4sp box cant handle it so.

We need a real alternative, GEARBOX GUYS SPEAK UP, I mean real farking alternatives not buy a BF it wont feckin fit so I hear or use a 3 speed fark, shurly someone has a suitable solution.

and this thread was gettin there - USA 4sp

Can we have some updates without the bull sh*t bickering please!

Yes.. 6 speed auto is a costly exercise. However, the box is only a little better in terms of power handling. Until we are able to alter the programming of these boxes, we're just gonna be wearing out clutches, with sloppy shifts under hard power.

There's rumours that there are a set of plantery's in production which is supposed to be stronger than the existing ones. Trying to find out more info about them.

Alternatively, the C10/C4 is the only other option. Loosing 1 gear in the process, Unless oyu went with a AOD, as spoken about in the other thread. essentially is a C10/C4, but with a overdrive gear/different extension houseing.

Agreed, atleast at this stage you can rebuild the 4 speed unlike paying 7k for a new ZF. Wonder how many of you guys out there know about the drive plate bolts coming loose on edited ZF equipped cars, I have heard of 10 so far. If not caught early enough input shaft damaged can be done and your up for a new box. Apparently these items are being replaced and bolts tightend under warranty but soon Ford will crack the sh*ts with footing the bill for the repairs and just stop offering warranty for such a problem...Hell I couldn't even get Ford to warranty my bonnet release because apparently the car had done to many km's and they put it down to misuse. All I can say is thanks Geea :spoton:

I reckon $1400 is a damn fair price for the work you had done.

Least I don't have to be scared if it does happen.

What sort of power you reckon you can run through it now?
