For every thirty or forty stories you hear about Ford Service Centre's being rip off, no good, lousy <expletive>'s, there is usually only one or two that paint the "Factory" as the good guys.

This is one of those.

I had my XR6T booked into Byrne Ford in Brisbane today, to have them look at a steering problem. The car seemed to be tramline-ing on camber changes, and I'd noticed a clicking sound every time I moved the steering wheel while stationary.

Upon explaining my concern to the service advisor and demonstrating said "clicking", I was somewhat dismayed at his response:

"Yeah mate that clicking happens on all these, and those tyres tramline heaps. Has it had a wheel alignment?"

"Here we go" I thought... no fault found but we'll take $100 for looking.

The tyres in question were original SP3000's, with about 38500km's on the clock.

A full wheel alignment had been performed at the 30000 service, at Byrne's.

Well blow me down if I don't get the same service advisor when I returned this afternoon...

"This is your lucky day mate"...

"We fixed up the clicking in the steering rack, and we found cracks in three of your four tyres. We replaced them under warranty."

..."You what?"

"New tyres mate, three of 'em."

:crybaby:

...yeah, that's what I said.

So fancy that! Three new tyres and I didn't pay a red cent!

Cheers Byrne - see you at 45000km's

If the tyres were cracking, isnt that Dunlop replacing them. Its been round here a while that the Dunlops crack and get replaced.

Mate

Hillis Ford fixed two warranty jobs now no problems. First being a unservicable (US) sensor on cylinder 6.

Secondly I to had the clicking noise in my steering. thought it was the after market sway bars for a time. Then people kept telling me it was not normal. Went into Hillis Ford, spoke to thje receptionist and said I need to speak with a mechanic about a clicking in the steering. She said its a shim that is required I will book it in strait away. Problem sold, warranty work done twice by Hillis with a smile.
