Hi guys about 4 weeks ago I noticed a drop in power and boost I checked every hose, clamp nook and cranny I drove it down to power torque engines and it was using alot of fuel, they also couldnt work it out untill mark put it on the dyno and said it didnt sound the same as before, and said it was the exhaust. So I drove it back to bundy and pulled the dump pipe and cat out and noticed the 3.5 metal cat I just had putin was ratteling so I cut the cat out and looked inside and one end was all melted and the biscut had come lose, any one else have this problem

When you say "cat I just put in was rattling" does this mean that it started to rattle after bring fitted or was there some time before it came loose. Most cat's need to be "bedded in" by a slow gentle warm up after first being installed. With a ceramic cat you can almost guarantee that it will break if you dyno it straight after installing without bedding it in first.

Did you bed in the cat?

My exhaust guy only asked one question when I asked his opinion on cats.

It was " what fuel do you run?"

he has seen MANY cats fail when running the fuel I like to call "optisoot".

This fancy change of name to v-power, doesnt mean squat imho. I still believe its a cat killer.

The only brand "S" fuel I use is LPG. I've had dramas with the other fuels from that company in various cars. I believe there is no sence in risking the XR to it.

a bit rich can kill cats... that's the only problem.. boost sounds good!!!

running a smidge rich would be better wouldn it , runs cooler. the other turbo they tuned 4 months ago it also running richer than mine and the cat they put in it is holding up
