G'day everyone. I have a 2003 xr6t with the 5sp man. Has anyone else had problems with selecting 3 gear occasionally. Either from 2nd to 3rd or from 5th back to 3rd. Seems to catch and baulk sometimes. Is there a fix or is it just how the gearbox is?! Thanks all.

Replace the oil in the T5 with castrol transmax Z (1.9 -2.0 L) , then replace and bleed your clutch fluid Properly as this fluid is prone to

braking down with the positioning of the fluid line, use a good quality fluid.. This should dramatically improve shifting and

clutch feel...

failing that your Clutch Is Farked and or possibly your 3rd gear Syncro's.. Good luck..

There is plenty more on this if you do a search in the sponsors section "Mal Wood"

Pete

what do you mean skip gears? while accelerating or decelerating?

I remember mal saying it is bad going from high revs in the lower gears (ie 2nd) to low revs in high gears (ie 5th), puts alot of strain on the syncros in the higher gear.

I skip gears on decel but always give the throttle a tap before I select, for example I dont try to jam it in 2nd at 85kph with no revs on board..

the shift quality was never very good in my t5, even with transmax, but it does improve with better fluid.

Pete, scare these kid's abit and tell them what happened to your T5 5 speed gearbox. :crybaby:

well , to put it simply there was not much left of it... the actual 3rd gear was broken in three peice's ..syncro was shatered

Well that's what you get 300+ kws and a extreme clutch, but ford were really good about it, they replaced the box 1 week from warranty expire and told me that my cluctch was rooted because of shudder... :roflmbo::roflmbo:
