I know someone that had it done mpsxr6t and I'm pretty certain they have to cut the cat off the dump pipe. So if you're handy with a welder and a drop saw, go for it.

As for no mufflers, an almost certain cop magnet.

Im gettin all mufflers taken out and thinking of doing this cat gutting thing....that setup would b very lound wouldnt it? n probly get me pulled ova?

is gutting the cat something u can do urself or? how do u actually go about doing it?

surprisingly it doesnt mate it much louder at all!! its about the same dB but sounds raspier...?? im not a huge fan of the note but sumthing like a centre muffler chop with hot dogs installed would mask the noise nicely.

as for doing it yourself, its not hard but its a bit of farting around mostly.... take it to an exhaust shop WHO WONT MIND GUTTING IT , punch the guts out, and weld a piece of straight through pipe and keep the cat housing as this will still make it look like u have a cat installed incase mr plod has a look under, mind you he wont want to dirty his pants..

Followed a car recently with a gutted cat, you can smell the difference. Asked the owner if his car was running rich, he said no gutted my cat as the it had collapsed. So you can smell the difference.

I had it gutted but never got in trouble for it,

I even went through regency inspection to get my defect off

I forgot to put the stock one back on but they never checked it

Smells like a taxi running on lpg that's on its third way 'round the clock'

You're looking at huge fines if you get busted

Raspier sound you say?

Mine is starting to sound very raspy if I give it a good thrash for awhile... baffles or whatevers inside must be loose

could be, its a hard noise to describe... its like having a cat full of paper ??

you know the rustling noise from paper infront of a fan? its like that but 433214 times faster... not very loud though but u can tell a slight difference is there!

Im in the same boat but while its illegal, how many of you speed, do burnouts. smoke etc.... Get my drift ;)

I have a wrx with a full 3" T/B exhaust that's completely free flowing (ie no cats, no cat shells, no muffling) and runs into a 4" cannon muffler and I've been over the pits 4 times for yellow stickers and the only thing said was the noise (serious issue!) as I was pushing around 97db on idle alone..

Yellow stickers were from the police whinging about noise and BOV's etc :P Nothing new to a 21 year old driving a wrx...

The majority of workshops in Perth didnt want a bar of my exhaust work but the guys at Mettams Muffler didnt mind but told me in writing that it was illegal hahaha.

Another thing to keep in mind is that its pointless gutting a cat. Why buy a $350 cat only to destroy it.. Its just wasting money considering you can probably get a "race pipe" made with flanges for less than $100! That way if you get yellow stickered, you can easily bolt it back in :)

that's what I'll do in the flacon when its time for mods!
