Stuff them.

If they were going to impound your car they would have done right there on the spot.

They would have been able to see that you were shaking in your boots, so they thought they would toy with you.

I am willing to bet anyone who is interested that you won't get a summons. I have had the same thing happen to me, where I was told to expect a summons and it never came. So just relax you didn't kill anyone it is not that serious offence.

Just a word of advice. NEVER PLEAD GUILTY TO ANYTHING :spoton:

All they said to me was that ive been cuaght under the hoon law (pretty sure my speed meant nothing) but I was doing like 90ish in a 70 zone becuase we only dragged for about 40 metres but it was enough for them to chase us and pull us over.

They were detectives also (must have been a quiet night)

asked me the normal questions like why did you do it,do you know the person you did it against etc.. im just sitting here (got like no sleep..) waiting for something to happen in 2 weeks when I get my summoning.. to the bloke who said they dont send 1, I hope you're right mate.. I dunno what my parents are gonna do once they find out

Sorry to hear about it mate. As ENVY T says your very lucky your not in Victoria, they would impound your car there and then. But I must ask, you said that the cop in the como was telling you to pull over, were there any red and blues flashing on or in the car? I ask because if there wasnt you dont have to pull over, as you dont know its an authoritive figure? It could be someone trying to jack your car for all you know, you wouldnt know any better. Did they give you any paperwork? It all sounds kinda suss... :spoton: but if its for real, the p plates on the windscreen are not going to help your chances either!

But all the best mate, hope it works out.

Cheers

You can seek free legal advice but most likely you wouldn’t want to waste money on a lawyer to represent you. A lawyer will probably cost ya $600 to $1000... But if you’re really concern ill be seeking free legal advice. you will probably get suspended or loose your licence because your on your plates.

Mate if it was the D's (detectives) you have an EXCELLENT chance of getting off. They are not traffic cops, so they will either just hope you learnt your lesson by scaring you, or they will take it further. If they do, it will be your word agains theirs.

Did you say you knew the other driver ?

The First and ONLY rule in dealing with cops is to keep your mouth shut. Only answer questions about who you are. NOTHING MORE.

I bet you do not hear anything further, but just incase, do what I said and write everythign down that transpired, like who said what and what the situation was like. Speed limit, traffic conditions, the way the cops got you, etc.

Judging by how worried you are about it, I'd say the cops have done their job well by giving you a fright. That should stop you from dragging on the street again.

I wouldn't worry too much about a summons appearing and definately don't ring him after 2 weeks to remind him to send you one. Detectives most likely have gotten on with some more important things in the meantime.

If a summons appears, you know what you should plead and deal with whatever consequences arise from that.

I must agree with the others detectives have a lot more things on there plate than car hoons.

and its a lot of paperwork to get u to court.

the main thing is a lax in police proceedure in this case, if u didnt get a written fine there and then I would not worry too much.

he cant write u a ticket tommorow and put todays date on it that's fraud.

I have seen cases where police standard opperating proceedure wasnt followed and the judge tossed it out of court and gave the police a serv for it.

ok mate this is the best advice you will ever get, as I been thru alot over the years....

1. if you didnt get a summons or paperwork on the spot, you probably wont ever. however, as your from WA, I dont know how the law works over there... He did what he did to scare you. DONT RING HIM EITHER!

2. If you do get the summons in the mail, GET LEGAL ADVICE!!!. yes they are expensive, but worth every penny and then some... THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. Good lawyers have got me off heaps of stuff, if I got nailed instead, your life is over... no car, no work, no money etc etc get me? GET A LAWYER, AND MAKE SURE THEY GOOD! theres a few dodgy ones out there that will just take your money...

3. Normally rule of thumb is to keep your mouth shut about everything and your entitled to do so legally - except name and address questions as someone said before...HOWEVER, if your polite and unobstructive you may get off completely with a warning (as you probably have) if your apologetic and cooperative... Ive been let off twice out of about 20 or 30 times... so if you play the numbers, you should say nothing most of the time.
