Hey guys,

I just recently bought an F6 2nd CAI and a highflow filter and am now looking at the Capa flash tuner. How will it work? Ive seen them for cheap on Ebay however dont they get locked to a car once used?

If I get one does it come with any preset tuning or do I have to program it all myself etc?

Also looking at a Phoon intercooler :useless:

Any thoughts?

It sounds to me like you need to do a bit more research before you start forking out for an EDIT on eBay. All the information about them is on CAPA's website, and many other tuners like xtremefordtuning

Flash boxes on eBay may SEEM cheap but as a few have found out they may be locked to a written off car or stolen, and need to be unlocked by CAPA. This comes at a cost, aswell at the freight costs. At the end of the day it might have been cheaper just to get a new one from your friendly tuner!

Some important questions to ask:

How many uses has it had? (ie how many cars has it been used on, they only have 5 lives)

Has the car it last came from been flashed back to factory before being sold?

You might have to do some searching but all the answers you need are on here.

Be wary of ones on eBay - unless it states specifically that it has only been VIN locked once (or maybe twice) then it may have had it's three "lives". After that it apparently has to go "away" to be fixed (reset). "Away" is the USA unless CAPA can now unlock them here. In any case it will cost - an enquiry to CAPA will get you the cost of having this done - add that to the cost of the cheap unit and it may not end up so cheap.

If you buy a new unit it will have three lives - ie. you can change it from car to car twice.

A new one will probably come with some generice tunes and in most cases these are OK (mainly for standard or minor mods) - if you do more serious mods you will definitely be advised to get a custom tune. The factory tune also remains in the unit for whenever you may wish to put it back to standard AND ALSO for your car makes trips back to the dealer - NEVER leave the CAPA tune in the car because if Ford Service "flash" your ECU the tune will be lost - another expensive visit to CAPA for re-instatement. This is particulalry important if you have a custom tune because it means more dyno time and expense to re-do a custom tune for your car.

Hope this is a start ...

Yeah I am only just researching it now. I have seen a few cheap ones on ebay but I have been reading alot of posts on here and I can see that it would be worth a few extra bucks to have a new one.

Any thoughts on an F6 Intercooler? It fits straight on however is it going to need extra mods (different piping etc) as everything else is still stock?

Fits straight in, no mods needed at all. Only issue is finding a better spot for your horn.

Once I fit mine the car was running a bit lean and needed a re-tune, but you should be right with minimal mods.

Wat you mean by running a bit lean?

you may want to jump on the c&v group buy as they are cheap and there is feedback on here about the generic tunes they offer.

Sorry im very nooby :crybaby: , do you mean there is a group buy on C&V edits?
