I just dont like vl turbos, I dont like any Expensive Daewoo put together, coz if u think about it, Expensive Daewoo had to bring a 350 chev from the states to say to ford we have a motor quicker than your 302 windsor back int vt and au days, and it took a motor from nissan to make a vl half decent, actually quarter decent, coz a motor is only a quarter of the car. yes people might argue the point of the chev still being quicker than the ford boss v8 in std form or even in modified form in that case, but im sure if the mustang 4.6ltr motor was bought to oz from ford in usa, it will be a totally different case altogether!

very interesting posts guys, just thought I should add that vl turbos are so sh*t its not funny, and yes everyone might be calling the T the so called 'next vl turbo', but im sure if cars could talk, the ba would be telling everyone who says that to go get faaarked!

Im guilty, I always call the T on the drive way the next VL turbo and think in 10 years time im buying like 5 of them to thrash the living sh*t out of.

Ok do you want to know the secrect how they run 11's they got a specail device they run the engine on just the engine and wheels nothing else and it does a 11second and they bitch about how good it is, but its not the car doing it, since its a holdentogeta

Just ask him what mph he had to get the 10.3. Should be up around the high 120's to early 130's.

I've seen them run 10.8's-10.9' with 122mph.

That's how to tell how full of :spoton: he is.

In regards to the traction issues with live axle, pfft. Years back mine ran 13.0 @ 105 with full tank and was slowly dropping as the fuel level went down so there's no issues there. Even humped a wrx off the line. And that was with sh1tty 14" tyres.

In comparison to some of the times I've seen here, there is a lot higher mph's to get near a 13.0.

Hey mate,

Does he have personalised plates at all?

I'm from the vl turbo world (new member to this forum) so I may know of the car.

It could be possible, but I doubt it, most people with 250-270rwkw in a properly set up car would be running around the 10.6-10.7 at 125+ mph.

Alot of things can matter and don't go believing dyno figures as dynos are merely a tool for tuning, mph is the true indicator.

Find out the mph and from there you should work out if he's bullsh*tting you or not

To be well and truly be able to back up that low 10 I'd be thinking he'd need at least 270-280rwkw in a good setup car.

But who knows whats under his bonnet and how he ran the car when he got a "10.3".

I know of a vl on lpg that only has around 250-260rwkw and has run as low as 10.59 on slicks @ 130mph, I believe he may have beaten this time.

If you do race him, let us know how you go though.

welcome mate. What car do you drive?

I currently drive a VL calais turbo but looking to upgrade some time soon to a T (hopefully next year, but really pushing to get it then).

Only problem is also in the market to buy a house (getting married shortly) so that's top priority.

My old man has a BA in silhouette only a 6 but got tinted windows, 18" XR8 Wheels, Black leather interior, sunroof etc.

what mods have you done to your VL?

only very basic mods.

Converted n/a to turbo motor (high compression around 9.0:1)

t3 hiflow

boost controller - 10psi tuned

2.5" exhaust (upgrading to 3")

Pod filter

FMIC

Ran on 215 street tyres at heathcote first time ever racing ran 14.3 @ 87mph, 60 foot 2.34

Then ran 14.5 @ 97mph (with passenger), 60 foot 2.4

Need more practice, especially getting out of the hole (taking off on no boost, will stall it up next time)

Believe the car will run low 14's, possible break high 13's if I get more practice and that's on street tyres, will try with slicks in the future.

Only making 164.5rwkw on 10psi (car is daily driven, plus exhaust is letting it down - can boost it more) so pretty happy with the above times for the moment until I get some more racing skills under my belt.

Also happy to know that it's running low 14's atm which is exactly how it is on the street, same boost, weight, tyres etc.

Other mods: just neatened up engine bay, custom sprayed rocker cover, oil catch can, boost gauge, stereo & riding on stock calais wheels and all the other little things. replaced a lot of stuff, a lot! lol

Here is some comparisons from a list that I have taken. All cars vary in weight, intake mods, engine mods, turbo, other bolt ons etc... so here is a variation of times possible. This information was taken off calaisturbo website for those that are wondering. These had to be back up with pictures and timeslips to prove it.

10.554@118mph

10.630@128.20

10.676@127mph

10.78@126.4

10.87@124.8

As I stated earlier, a mph of 125+ will prove he can get near the 10.3

If you do speak to him again find out mph and any modifications he has performed.

If he's manual, forget it, he's sh*t talking unless he has 310+ at the rears and is a damn damn damn good driver.

Matt.
