I QUOTE

"OK, MY FORD PARTS REP FOUND THE COOLER FOR ME, THEY ARE OUT THERE AS THEY GET FITTED TO ALL THE COP CARS. THE NO IS BAF 7A095 AA "

FACT : This is a ford cooler part number

FICTION : It is no different to the coolers fitted to T6 cars from 2002

FACT : Ford is releasing a special cooler for the 40th GT

FICTION : It is no more special than one from REPCO or EQUIVILANT

FICTION : The ZF Gearbox needs a special cooler

FACT : Any cooler will work the Auto will not go in to limp mode (Just remember to add extra trans fluid the right type)

After spending an afternoon at FMCO I am no professional but I believe what I see and I see ZF equipped cars with Trans coolers. The mechanic who looks after specifically drive train components corrected the above points, I quote.

“If you are concerned he said he would fit a trans-cooler for $600.00 with warrantee or jut pick a larger one up from REPCO”

Well I did my research I await the onslaught of corrections from the audience :stirthepot:

Well done, go the head of the class!

It s true you can fit aftermarket trans coolers to the zf box. all ya doing plumbing some hose and tech screwing a cooler to the front of ya radiator.

But why f around flex hoses that are to small to go over the existing quick clipped lines and making a nice bracket for the cooler.

When ford makes one that clips on and bolts in. the hard work is done for ya.

just a note the std turbo zf box has a water to oil cooler mounted under the a/c comp. the cooler that you have quoted is a air to oil cooler that includes all the fittings to go onto this cooler. I must be mistaken I thought the 4spd went through the radiator!

just my 2 cents

Kev

That was your part number quoted in previous thread NOT MINE :slap::roflmbo: ???

http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33339

It is not for the ZF as YOU have indicated it is a STD cooler that has been on the spare parts list since 2002 4SP ION WTF

You can mount this FMCO cooler if you wish to part with the extra $$$ to the FMCO

but my 2C says get a larger aftermarket unit

The point is you DO NOT NEED A SPECIAL COOLER as before indicated in other posts.

It does not matter if the lines originally go through the radiator (Ion 4sp) or a Water / Oil cooler on the side of the block (F6 ZF) these are replaced with a larger Air to Oil cooler.

So are you saying that the ford ZF cooler is good or bad??

MB

The ZF cooler is great for STD use. If you wish to fit a larger cooler (Track or strip work or just insurance) as you have noted in the previous thread

http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33339

Then you do not need a special cooler as KEV has pointed out in the (previous thread) any trans cooler will be ok

You can purchase any trans cooler and fit it but remember to refill the tranny with the correct oil

So why would Ford not fit the upgraded cooler (heavy duty towing pack version) to cars with the ZF box? Go to the Ford website, and you can see that an upgraded cooler for the ZF trans is not available.
