Hey guys,

Just wondering, are pod filters worth the upgrade? I was looking at getting a Typhoon Duel Intake filter box with a high quality filter, but would it be better to simply have a POD filter system installed?

It depends what you're after exactly. A pod by itself in the engine bay WILL send you backwards. A small pod like the K&N xtrem mounted in your airbox would definitly see a gain, especially with an F6 lower snorkel as well. Whether there would be much more of a gain than the equivalent with a K&N or BMC panel filter, I could not tell you. Induction noise would definitly be better though.

Keeping the CAI on the passanger side, you could always use a G&D airbox which uses a large K&N pod filter, or if you go with an APS Phase III or Nizpro stage II you would need their airbox with a large pod also. As long as the pod is encaptulated in something and isn't sucking in hot air from the engine bay you should see some sort of gain.

I did some testing on a dyno, and with the pod filter boxed, it gave me exactly 1.3 rwkws! Not alot really. And the power curve was all lumpy like a hot 351 in an xy! As soon as I put the stock paper filter in, the power curve smothered right out. I also had black smoke coming form the zorst, and it was at the exact moments that there were dips in the curve. All normal and no smoke with the stock filter.

IMHO a BMC or K&N panel filter would offer you better gains, all without the induction noise though.

I wonder why that would be the case? I can't understand why it would do that. I wonder if it's unique to the "pod-in-a-box" or if it would do that with all pod filter set ups (I.e Nizpro, APS, G&D ect).

ive got a pod mounted in a alumium box where the battery used to be, it deffiatnely improved throttle response but the induction noise is starting to drive me nuts. The turbo flutter is pretty awesome though, and yes I know its bad for my turbo.

I have pretty much the same setup, and it's not bad for the turbo.

poor bang for buck, and since you can make pretty much limitless power with the stock airbox in place, I'm not sure why you'd bother. better to put the money towards mods with a better $/kw ratio (injectors, cat, tune, IC etc)
