Some say the cops dropped him, others say he shot himself. Feds say that it was the latter. Edited 16/04/07 09:17 PM by Telionis
aiboart Member 665 Member For: 19y 11m 15d Posted 16/04/07 09:30 PM Share Posted 16/04/07 09:30 PM (edited) I'm not sure if it's out of control. The question is, what do you do now? If there was a law that said every one has to turn in their guns immediately... otherwise they'll be thrown in jail. What would happen? All the legitimate citizens would turn in their guns, and all the violent criminals... well they would not. So the law would effectively disarm all the law abiding citizens, while the guys that are causing all the problems would still be just as armed. If you know the criminals will have guns, do you want to be at their mercy or would you prefer to have to fight them? Which is the lesser of two evils?Telionis, the NRA in America runs that line all the time. I must say that I always thought that was a possible but unlikely theory. After Australia experienced a similar shocking event to the one you have just described, we took a national decision remove guns from circulation and to greatly restrict the instance of gun ownership. It certainly seemed like a reasonable action at the time. This is what happened in an experiment conducted on a national scale.Shootings, which were once extremely rare became daily events. In fact we now have several shootings a day.Certain criminal groups became untouchable by virtue of the fact that they carry guns and and are not afraid to use them. The police cannot but defer to these groups nor can the public now defend itself. We had a shameful incident where the police were ordered form stopping a convoy sent to attack particular suburbs due do the fact that they were out gunned and out manned. All these events are well known and the subject of national headline news. The NRA, as crazy as they seem in general, are probably correct in this instance.Regards,aa Edited 16/04/07 09:36 PM by aiboart

Australia's gun control is just a warm and fuzzy thing to keep the stupid happy and content. The same thing can, and almost definately will eventually happen over here again. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon occurence in the US. Something is clearly wrong that these sorts of incidents happen, albeit not on this scale. It makes for a much safer society.you reckon?I walked into the cop shop, booked my test.. fortnight later done the test, passed sent away forms.joined the local SSAA club and got a permit to shoot on crown land from the national conservation place.sent away my permits to purchase and about 2 months later have a cabinet full of guns.... the only "reasons" I gave as to why I wanted a liscence was to sport shoot at the SSAA club, and to hunt on crown, bushland occasionaly. nowdays I rarely take the guns out unless hunting with mates at night, the ammo is too expensive to sport shoot unless you reload your own and the presses and equipment arent cheap either, and im not THAT serious about it anyways.but GET THIS!the laws are VERY strict on how the guns are to be stored, its something like if the cabinet is made of steel and weighs more than 300(?) kg its not needed to be secured, but if less (like mine, school locker) has to be dynabolted to the house studs, bricks or anything secure and then the police come and check to make sure its all safe and secure.also all ammo must be kept under a seperate key, I keep all my ammo in a steel lockable toolbox, but all bolts still in the guns.its been 4 years now and still no visit or call from the police to inspect my gun safe. now I knw for a fact its safe but whos to say I dont have the guns leaning against the wall for any minor to grab and take to school?in a way australias gun laws ARE very safe, but in some aspects theres a few sections of the laws that are very slack and could use improving.as for american gun laws, "YOUR RIGHTS....." will be the death of your country!
