Directional Tyres

However, as with all radial ply tyres the tyres which start life on the right side should always stay on the right side and similarly for the left tyres ie you rotate tyres front to back on the SAME side of the vehicle.

As the spare is rarely used it can be placed on either side and either left on that side or removed to the boot after the original tyre is repaired/replaced and put back to the original position.

Exactly what I wanted to hear (tore my hair out all night last night;not that Ive got much left)

With my previous car I was told NOT to rotate the tyres at all.

So basically the tyres that were on the car when I bought it stayed in the same spot untill they wore out - then 4 new ones.

And the thing that surprised me was they all wore evenly and at the same rate. I never had the wheels balanced and the car was only serviced once in the tyres 50000Kms life (which was correct for the car - 25000kms service intervals).

Turbo6man is right,the tyres are assymetrical and can run either side of the car as long as correct side is fitted out. having owned a tyre service for 15 years and driven on both dunlop 3000e (current turbo) and dunlop 9000 (last auIII xr8 and heaps of other cars) I can tell you that the dunlop 9000 as used in 18" will "tram track" a lot more than the 3000 and doesn't squeel anywhere as much as the 3000 and also something that not many people realise is that not all 235/45x17 tyres are the same width. Sure they are a noninal 235 wide, but the 3000 is about a good centimetre wider than the 9000 in the same specified width (so less rim damage from gutters)
