At least it's pretty unlikely someone is going to throw in a barra240T motor eh ? :(

You CANNOT get a 260kw or 290kw V8 in ANYTHING that it doesnt come standard in. It is NOT an optional extra. You CANNOT get a turbo in anything but an XR6T. You CANNOT get XR suspension on base model BA's.

Ahhhh very good point, but where do you draw the line ???

I mean XR's arent meant to have Illuminated Window switches...

They arent meant to have Footwell lamps....

They arent meant to have the roof mounted sunglass holder.....

They arent meant to have the Fairmont Analogue clock.....

None of these are Factory options.....

But I have seen these fitted to non Fairmont vehicles.

I personally have no problem with people fitting ghia bits to their cars.

I dont see it as diluting my personal investment....

In fact, that sort of thing impresses me.....

It adds to the individuality of the owners car....

Likewise, I would like to hope that If I at sometime I decided to fit an XR instrument cluster, or changed the interior Illumination to blue, that I wouldnt be frowned upon, for diluting the exclusivity of the XR range....

Though, I think sticking a TURBO badge on a Non turbo car, or sticking XR badges on a non XR is a little bit tacky....

As one of the other threads has mentioned, an XT is still an XT and a Fairmont is still a Fairmont, when it comes to resale time.

I think of the old days with the "faker shakers" and the difficulty the uneducated had with identifying them.

With the information on this forum and others, there'd be no way that anyone could be excused for not being able to identify the "real" thing, particularly with the Barra 240T engine.

I don't really have a problem with the resale issue, but it is a bit tacky to put XR front and rear bits on XTs and the like, but I agree with a little bit of "individuality" like the window switches and footwell lights.

As long as no-one does genuine turbo kits for the N/A cars.:blink:

Also what about the GS's of yonder past? They looked practically the same in the XAs and XB and didn't dilute the model image?

I cannot wholly agree with Brent.

I have a WRX that has had the full STi treatment, incl. wheels, colourcoding, exhaust and it has not effected the resale of real STi's. There are MANY fake STi's out there, not all done to the extent of mine though. Heck, I have even fooled different dealers from time to time.

It is called individuality. I could not (at the time) afford a genuine STi, so I made one. I don't think that XR's will be effected AT ALL due to this practice. After all, who here would go to look at a second hand XR6T, only to find out that it is a modified XT, and then go "oooo gee, I thought it was a real one, I'm not going to pay as much for a real one now that I know there are fake ones out there."

Anyway, being copied is a compliment...

Andrew

Brent> What makes you think there are no Crappydore Executives out there with HSV body work? - maaaate, there are friggin' HEAPS of them - and a bloody lot with just that puny V6 in them.

DavoWA> Well bad luck mate 'cos you're gonna be badly disappointed - there were/still are turbo kits for 250 CID Ford motors, 4.1L crossflows, 4.1L EFIs, and of course even the Cleveland and Windsor V8s. 4.0L OHC motors have been fitted both with turbos and superchargers since 1994 or thereabouts, so it won't be long before they are adapted to the twin cam motor and I say "great" to it all.

Fact remains, for whatever reason, that some people will want to mod their cars in their own ways and who are we to stop them being individuals?

ExRexer is spot on ... the value of the "true" car will definitely not be compromised.

My local dealer has been sticking XR fronts and body kits on XTs since day 1 of the Barra. They told me they had trouble shifting them cos they could get the XR6 n/a on the road cheaper.

I agree, Ford should put a stop to this practice.

Guys,

Hang on, wait a moment here. I never said that people should stop modding their cars to make them individual..........if some guy's idea of a great car is a Hyundai Excel with 3 inch exhaust, Oakley stickers & a rear wing as big as a malibu surfboard, then so be it, each to their own. I too love the idea of whacking on 17 inch wheels or leather seats in a car to make it a bit individual.

What I'm saying is that a few personal mods is a little different to the uncontrolled swapping of genuine factory equipment onto other models, especially engines or bodywork that is supposedly exclusive to certain models, in this case XRs or GTs.

I'm going to be harsh here, but let's face it.......like most owners of locally produced cars, I've had a gutful of having cars that have some of the worst resale values around (Leyland P76s and Lada Nivas possibly excluded!!!), and I reckon that Ford has some responsibility in protecting the damn customer for once, and actually doing something to help protect the value of cars like the XRs and GTs. In this regard, when people like us shell out an extra $10, $20 $30K or whatever for an XR or GT, we're paying for a bit of exclusivity as much as better 0-100 times, and this element needs to be nurtured and protected by Ford more than it probably has been in the past, as they've done stuff-all for the customer in the last 10-15 years.

Brent.

I personally don't have a big problem with it. I wanted the XR for the features, not only the looks, so I don't care.

Think about it for a second, Ford are not really the ones stopping it, or starting it, they may just be the ones getting in first.

Take Bogan special in Sydney for example, after I damaged the front of my old XR8 I needed a replacement, Ford wanted around $1600, Bogan special wanted around $700. Although I didn't get the XR front from Bogan special I did get the Supercar front. Now the XR8 was far from a Supercar, but hell it looked good (see http://www4.tpg.com.au/users/weare it's sold now though)

Anyway, each to their own, they will get the parts either from Ford or the aftermarket industry later down the track.

I think the AU had one thing going for it, and that was it was a lot harder to change the entire front end. The new BA is not as hard, so expect to see a lot of this
