Peter Warren have been doing this for years - they would do XR fronts on wagons, utes, Fairmonts, or anything else the customer wanted to customize his car.

I don't see anything wrong with this - the car can look however but it doesn't effect how it performs - only the real XRs will show it up for a poser.

maybe so but I still don't like it......it's bad enough that the wanna be's get their grubby hands on the bits from wreckers etc....Ford dealers doing it is just not Kosher IMO.

I think that all this "interchangeability" regarding XR front ends, swaping engines etc is a real concern. There's a difference between adding on factory approved options such as leather seats, 17 inch wheels etc, as opposed to swaping parts of a car that should be exclusive to XRs onto an XT or whatever. I really think the danger is that the XR "brand" becomes diluted and loses its exclusivity if this sort of thing becomes commonplace.

As some of you have already questioned, I don't know if this is being sanctioned by the factory or not, but I'll go out on a limb here and say that Ford could take a leaf out of HSV's book in this instance. One of the reasons for the strength of the HSV brand is that if you want the fully worked V8 and the HSV design.........you had to buy a HSV, as you can't option-up an Executive with HSV bits. Simple. That way, the brand is protected from bastardisation.

I don't own a BA yet, but I think we've all been bitten at some stage with Ford's terrible resale value over the years, and to me, if this practice of interchangeability becomes commonplace, it'll be a problem.

Brent.

I dont think they offer the turbo in anything but the XR6T do they?

I personally like the idea of an XT with XR8 or GT running gear. The ultimate QShip perhaps.I can also understand the Dilution theory. How many people bought their Turbos for exclusivity though?

Also feel for the poor buggers who are ripped off by unscrupulous F*****G C***S who parade these XT as an XR6 or 8!

I know this from experience:Dad and I flew from brisbane to Adelaide to buy SPECIFICALLY an ED XR-8 Sprint....which was nothing more than an EB GLi ex Works Rally Car done up all flash...Still angry bout that.

I am a little pissed that I cant put the GT bits on my turbo (pedals, brakes etc), but I am just selfish!!!!! (and a cheapskate!)

But I do wholeheartly agree with brett's post. There is nothing worse than people that copy. If you want the boss 260 or 290, go buy a car that is supposed to have these motors in them! Or if you want the turbo motor, go buy a xr6T!

Is it as bad in the "subaru" department? (rx's turning into wrx's)
