Hard to go wrong with the yamaha reliability. If that's the path you choose, get a workshop manual and follow the recomended service guidelines and volia, reliable beasty.

My old 400 went hard from day one, and is still going hard now ( mate bought it ).

Use quality oil, do the filter every oil change, and clean/oil the airfilter EVERY ride.

enjoy, they have heaps o mumbo.

I have rebuilt the motor, head and replaced nearly every other perishable component on my bike. Most 03 WR,s are well worn.I wouldnt bother with a 400 or 426.most of them are up for timing chain replacement and dont have electric start or auto decomp.Be careful what you look at as these bikes can be ticking timebombs.Trust me.I KNOW :spoton:

Well this will be my 7th bike when I finally get it, ive had 3 yami's, 1 kwaka, a honda, got a chinese sh*tter 125 at the moment (just replaced the fuel tank today and cleaned out the carby - tip dont use the fuel tap just leave it on) which is going to the girlfriend to ride, and the only real major problem I have ever had with any of them was burning out the valves on a kwaka 250 roadie, which was understandable coz I thrashed the sh*t our of it everywhere.

I rebuilt the motor in one I had myself, ive done the clutches before, stripped them down to the frame painted the frame and restored them, so im not worried about a bit of mechanical work. I agree the bikes would be ticking timebombs and cost a fortune if you were taking them to a bike shop every time to get them fixed, and its understandable, with all the bunged fingers, cut hands, grease, swearing and everything else that goes on in the bike shops, I reckon they earn every cent.

It has been a few years since ive had a decent bike, but im pretty sure I'll find something quite good for $5000 - $5500 from what ive read, went out to a bike shop at nerang the other day and told the guy look im not buying today I just want to see what youve got, told him I was after a wr450f, he took me to one out the front which looked immaculate for $6500, from a bike shop mind you which I thought was cheap.

I said cheers mate and started to walk away, and he knocked $800 off the price, and then he said "well what price will get your business" I wish I had the cash I would have bought the bloody thing right then. lesson learnt though definately the best way to buy is to walk away and pretend your half interested.

Wes

"whats that you said ... WR450F"

"well that's all I heard"
