Comparing a Wr 450 to Jang shin or whatever chinese like comparing an F6 to a Lada Niva.

They both get you around but who want a Lada!

I own a wr426 but I have been riding for years.

If you have no experience a 250. Get some skills happen and it only happens with experience.

You will be faster on a lesser bike. Stick with the Jap bikes. The build quality and the capability of the bikes is light years ahead.

Cheers Paul

must admit, from a distance they look ok, but I had a chance to see one up close last week and you can see where the 5g discount came from. The motor looks like an early honda (xl or similar), if it is then it should be ok. You are much better off getting a rego'd bike. Good luck with it.

Some, some, of the Chinese bikes are good quality, but they aren't bargains. The Terra Moto range (formerly Thumpstar) have a good reputation, but cost over $3,000 for their 125 pro.

$1500 for a 250 sounds too cheap, and would generally be cheap for a reason. I've got an el cheapo 125 Chinese bike for mucking around on and something breaks or falls off every ride.

The comment on the motors lookng like Honda are spot-on. Basically, Honda sold off some old engine moulds and machine tools to China. They are Honda designed motors, just put together without Honda quality or componentry.

As mentioned earlier, you're better off with a rego'd bike (illegal riders ruin it for the rest of us and deserve to get caught and flogged) as well as a reputable brand for the type of riding you want to do.

Then again, we may be wrong and you may be lucky. For $1500 it maq be worth a gamble, but be prepared to do your dough if it all goes wrong. And be prepared to be restricted to riding on private property only.

It looks tuff, but I'm with the other guys. After racing enduro for many years and riding since I was a little kid I wouldnt risk anything but a Jap or a Euro bike.

Spares, quality, service, reliabilty are all features of well known bikes like Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, TM, KTM ect...

Doenst matter if your a hero rider or not, you'll get blasted by anyone on a decent bike and regret not spending more money at the beginning.

I ride KTM's and I also have a GSXR-750 road bike and would never look back.

sorry mate I am with the other guy's,

have owned wr's since the 400's came out, and have a wr450 now, has never let me down, and grunt to boot,

I go riding with the chinese bikes, they sit and watch, and seem to break down just watching what we do to the wr's

we are alway's welding up the frame, zip tying the xxhaust back on to get home, every time they go out they come home on the trailer.

if you are just going to ride it around the yard, she might do you, (and its not that far to push it back)

also they are gutless, even compared to a 20 year old xr200.

Yeah there a good bit of gear. What year did you ride? Forget about the Chinese crap mate you won't regret it :spoton:

I rode a 2003 WR 450, couldnt believe the control you have with all that power, you can pull it up to exactly where you want to, little higher, little lower, I think I was doing mono at about 60 clicks hehe

I had a tt350 years ago which used to ride sort of like that, but I didnt get the valve clearances done and it lost a lot of power over time, im told if you get the valve clearances done regularly, you will be able to keep it going for ages.
