The day I picked my car up, the cops were at the dealer investigating how a xr6turbo was stolen while being serviced. Apparently they read the rego number and walked into the key box and took the keys and drove off. I'm just wondering if I should take the car there for my services.

Would probably be a really safe dealer to go to now, because they probably had a massive security review as a result!

Just thinking..... this would be a great purchase from the insurance company at the right price. Transplant the motor, gearbox brakes etc into something like an early 70's Capri and with only 1100kgs it would be a great toy.

I've got the same keypad on my XR6 turbo as is fitted standard on the WRX.

I had to get an immobilier for my insurance anyway so I thought I'd get a decent one.

The benefit of the keypad is even if someone takes your keys they still can't start it without your PIN.

Also, we should try to get into the habit of locking all 4 doors once inside the car... not that I always remember to do so.

Not to discredit what you've said, but I was always taught to leave your car doors unlocked incase of an accident. Easier for your aiders to get you out of the car.

I'd rather my life, than my car.

Having said this, I've got a hefty Maglite nearby incase any *beep* tries to get in my car while I'm in it.

Just to add guys,

The best Keypad immobiliser to get is a Brant keypad, and it has a host of functions for different drivers.

And don't worry about the insurance. Once they get onto a good thing, the insurance company keep penalising owners of high performance cars long after security issues are rectified. It has been 12 months since MOST 99- WRX's were retrofitted with keypads, and I only know of one (with the mod)being legitimately stolen, and that was on a tow truck. Insurance companies still ask rediculous premiums or refuse cover...

If I happen to have an accident in my XR6T that's so serious I'm unable to unlock my doors myself, my would-be rescuers are quite welcome to smash a window.
