Hey gang, especially those who already have their XR6s with Premium Sound: Do you know if the system supports displaying CD-Text information? I.E. If the CD has CD-Text, does the ICC display the CD/Track/Artist names?

Well, everything's controlled by the firmware, so it should be a pretty simple process to include things like MP3 playback and CD-Text support. I'm not sure who the actual manufacturer of the audio system is, but the Satellite Navigation is an integrated VDO Dayton unit.

Ford say the manufacturer is FMS Audio which I think is a sub of Sanyo

Actually FMS is a subdivision of Blaupunkt and stands for Flotten Management Systems. They specialise in in-car entertainment systems.

But i also believe they do SANYO work and the parent company is SANYO.. not sure what relation BlauPunkt and Sanyo have.. maybe their the same company? wouldnt be suprised.

If you're seriously interested in who makes the ICC...

FMS is Ford Mazda Sanyo except Mazda quit years ago and Ford has no interest now. It's now 100%Sanyo and it's made in Malaysia. Blaupunkt radio for Expensive Daewoo is made about 2km down the road and has lower fidelity than the FMS unit. The whole ICC is made by Sumitomo with components from Bosch, Venture, Hook Plastics and Diver. The Audio, Climate Control, Engine Control Unit and Body Computer communicate on the 500kbps CAN (Controller Area Network) bus so data such as that vehicle speed is available to all modules. Want any more info???

Blaunpunkt is Bosch, guys.

The Sat Nav is made by Nippon Denso and Sumitomo supply it to Ford as a complete system with the ICC. The system is DVD based and runs with a RISC processor. The screen is an NTSC TFT LCD with external RGB interface for the Navi system. Because it's made by Nippon Denso, the Navi system is NTSC. Overlays for audio, climate, etc are done using an OSD (On Screen Display) chip.

Hell Yeah! I want to know more about the CAN!

What Protocol does it use? 500kbps serial?

HOw to access it?

Is it read-only?

What functions does it include?

Diagnostics capability?

Where can I get more information? Technical and otherwise?

And if the DVD satnav uses a different screen to the premium sound - TFT with RGB input - a computer downconverter to RGB should be able to go through that...

SO... computer mounted somewhere (in the boot maybe), remote control, plugged into a digital input for the stereo...

MP3's, DVDs, VCD's controlled through the ICC anyone? :)

OK - now that I've announced my major geekness... :)

Cheers
