Is replacing the ford thermostat with a cooler one have any advantage or disadvantage on motor performance, wear and tear, ect. I'm up in central Queensland so temps can get high especially in summer and we don't have the coolest of all nights either.Whats your opinion?Cheers Cameron

Is replacing the ford thermostat with a cooler one have any advantage or disadvantage on motor performance, wear and tear, ect. I'm up in central Queensland so temps can get high especially in summer and we don't have the coolest of all nights either.Whats your opinion?Cheers CameronI've lived in the Pilbara for the last 8 years and it's pretty standard practise there to replace thermostat with an 82 degree one. Once I did that in my Landcruiser the temp gauge never moved whereas before it would move with varying ambient temps and degree of hard work that I was doing. Never had a problem with it afterwards. When I had my edit done, Simon from Xtreme Ford Tuning did this too I believe and I noticed that my gauge sat lower again too. I would recommend calling him or any other reputable tuner and getting his point of view on this as it seems to be a good one. I would say go ahead and do it but I'm no expert whatsoever. It should be easy enough to revert back to old thermostat if you needed to.Just my opinion

He suggested I leave it at this stage as I already have a 20% under drive and that should make run a wee bit cooler anyhow.
Guest Guests Posted 04/06/07 08:54 AM Share Posted 04/06/07 08:54 AM Any other thoughts or ideas ??You want Power?20% Performance Under Drives adds 9 rwkw for bugger all coin.Theres not many N/A XR6 or XT owners on AFF without Under Drives and not one unhappy owner. Its a must for the BA-BF N/A Inline 6 Cyl.Take a look at the Under Drive theads here on this forum or try AFF for details.
