dude, I don't claim to know what's going on :w00t2: I'm confused. All I'm reporting is the experience I've got from my car. If it doesn't help make the car run cooler, then what does?? the tuning? until I installed the thermostat I had the thermo fans on 24/7 as soon as the car hit 1/4 on the temp gauge. Since the thermostat was installed I hardly ever hear the thermo fans come on. I'm just reporting what goes on with my car.. as I said, I really don't know the mechanicals of the situation.. but that's what's doing with my car, sorry

yeah its coz the original thermostat was holding the temp too high and may have been a tad faulty - that's what happens when they play up!

some peeps report running at approx 1/4 guage from stock, and others have reported up to 1/2 stock. so whats this telling us? that the factory thermostats are inconsistant more than likely. so, if you are unlucky enough to get one of these, your car will run hotter than its supposed to.

why spend $70 on a replacement thermostat, when you can spend $5? because you get super deadly extra hype cool performance that's why! :fool:

No.. the people who are saying that their needle sits at 1/4 are saying they have had a lower temperature thermostat FITTED - NOT the stock thermostat. Everyone here with the stock thermostat will say that their temp needle sits maybe a needle or two under halfway to halfway under normal driving conditions. I think the stock thermostat is rated at 92 degrees C.

The lower temperature thermostat DOES enable the engine run cooler under normal operating conditions as it is fully open (at say 82 degrees) THUS allowing the tuner to add more spark advance as there is less propensity for detonation, (modified Master Coolant Temp vs Spark Advance table?) and ALSO accordingly setting the thermo fans to continue running until the coolant is at this 82 degrees before switching the fans off. By using the thermofans, the engine temps CAN be kept lower with the lower temp thermostat as opposed to the factory 92 degree thermostat.

As Jimmy said, his thermo's were running flat chat in the cold weather.. Why? Because after his car was edited, the thermo fans were set to only switch off at 82 degrees, (to match the 82 degree thermostat) but the factory thermostat (92deg) would not allow the engine temp to get this low as it would close up and stop the circulation of water into the radiator....

And just so you know, you can get a lower temp thermostat for the same price as a regular one... give or take a few bucks here or there.

...........so, in the real world, your car wont stay at the lower temp of the cooler thermostat under hotter driving conditions of higher load and/or ambient temperature.

the point im trying to make is this, A cooler thermostat wont help keep your car running cooler when you want it most!!! IE hard driving or more rwkw or hot days.

if this is your goal, BUY A BIGGER RADIATOR...

if your fangin, your car wont stay cool....

if you dont want to fang why the f*ck are we talking about more timing from lower temp engine??? :spoton:
