Iasked about these on this forum not too long ago ... a) $70 is a total rip-off, you can get cooler thermostats from any spares place b) apparently the standard tune can't really do much with a cooler engine because it's only got so much spark advance programmed in. You really need an edit to get the most potential out of having a cooler thermostat.

Ok, so the ecu thinks that the engine is colder than it really is? Is that what it's doing? :spit:

We need someone to tell us how it works!, if that's what it does though, whats the point in buying

the ecu isnt fooled by the thermostat the motor just runs cooler allowing more power to be made.

the thermostat is a little valve that opens and closes in the hot water path.

its located in the thermostat housing and regulates the flow of coolant into the radiator holding the motor at a controlled temperature.

changing the thermostat for a cooler one will make the car run cooler.

the factory use a thermostat that will work in tazzy winter and brizzy summer.

mine sits just over 1/4 in the middle of summer.. occasionally it got close to the middle on really hot days, stuck in traffic with spirited driving. I have a cooler thermostat though, in conjunction with edit etc etc

I dont believe that, thermostats only restrict the water supply to the radiator when the engine starts up from cold helping it to get to full temp quicker. 90% of engine wear occursr when cold due to larger clearances and cold oil not protecting like warm oil. once the engine reaches operating temp, it is fully open and therefore cant make it run cooler than it otherwise would. waste of money... some people believe anything...
