I decided to test out a F6 with the ZF 6 speed to see what all the hype is about. At first I noticed that it is a little punchier off the line but nothing to boast about. The biggest difference was that it is zippier as boost comes on earlier than the 4 speed (around 30 km/h as apposed to 40 km/h)I was very disappointed with the shifts. It felt like a slow changing manual, it took all the fun out of using the manual shift. It just doesn't RIP into gears. I hope the edit fixes this?Overall I agree its a great gearbox but I don't think that its worth the $12K upgrade price yet.Because the turbo six has loads of torque down low, performance is not a huge improvement, but it is snappier. Comparing my BF 6 speed auto to my BA 4 speed auto, I think the changes are faster and more aggressive in the ZF 6 speed

Mine is quick to change gears and does not slide into gears like the ION 4speed.I think after a bit of hard driving it will firm up.
Robit28 Member 385 Member For: 19y 1m Location: Brisbane Posted 31/03/07 10:52 PM Share Posted 31/03/07 10:52 PM I find if driving id D Adaptive, the shifts are quite slow but this is to create a more smoother gear change.Flick it over to D Performance and the gear changes become quite snappy.Manual mode is the same and I think they are better than by old 4 speed. The only thing I don't like about the box is that it will kick down (automatically) in manual mode, something my 4 speed never did.I am pretty sure the edit can't controll the ZF's yet (correct me if I am wrong) but when they can, I hope we can take away the automatic kickdown.Rob. WOT in PERF mode though it turns in to a bit of a neck-jerker as it snaps through the gears so well Oh and Rob if it's kicking down gears in manual mode, prehaps that's actually telling you that you're in the wrong gear you fool! Surely your not saying they will trade your BA XR6T for a BF Tornado with 12k changeover? If that deal is actually on the table, you'd be mad not to take it. Assuming you could get a Tornado for $50k, that would mean they are giving you $38k for yours. Either way, a quick fling in a BF 6sp auto doesn't do it justice. You really need to let the box get used to your driving style. Having had a 4sp BA XR6T and then a 6sp manual F6, I can tell you the ZF auto is a counrty road ahead in every way.If you think the ZF changes like a slow shifting manual, you haven't driven a 6sp manual. The ZF will outshift a standard manual anyday. The only thing I miss about my manual is the heel/toe downshifting. There is nothing I miss about my XR6T 4sp auto. NOTHING! Umm unles you are aware of this , it can be damned dangerous ( note to self to raed the handbook). In manual mode puckering along in 3rd at ~ 80ks and floor it , back to second she goes , wheelspin and sideways action in the bat of an eye. Not a lot of fun when you are not expecting it. Do not try this in the wet
