New Clutch

Hi all,

I'm just after some opinions on what clutch to get. I currently have an Xtreme cerametallic clutch and I find it holds the power fine but I can't stand the shuddering and very heavy pedal feel anymore. I'm tossing up between a typhoon twin plate and a Mal Wood's option 3. I do hit the local drag strip occasionally but I also want to keep the pedal feel as smooth/light as possible for the street.

So, does anyone out there have either of these clutches with 300+ atw and hit the dragstrip? How do they hold up? ie. slippage

Thanks alot guys :bum:

TyphoonTwin-Plate probably has the best pedal pressure for daily commuting, as any factory clutch has to remain user friendly. Kinda vague as to the exact friction point is but certainly handles punishment. Mal Wood Option 3 has a much firmer pedal, doesnt slip and had a definite friction point, making consistent quick take-offs repeatable and relatively easy, holding on right up to 350+rwkw.. depends what you are after..

The clutch I have now can handle the power with ease but its a hassle to drive on the street. I just want something that's going to be fairly streetable but at the same time will cop a bit of a hiding at the strip. I might try and drive a FPV with the twin plate to compare because I just drove my uncles friends car which had an option 3 so I'll be able to compare. Cheers for the reply :hiwelcome:

I am also after a new clutch currently run a exedy cushion button clutch which slips like no tommorow. I have a BA MK 2 which runs 325rwkws and the clutch slips after 4 grand.

I was curious of anyones thoughts on the mal wood option 6 twin plate set up which can support up to 1000hp. I'm guessing drivability shuddering for stop start driving would be significantly worse.

What does everybody else think?

The option 6 is not to bad once you get used to it (I have used one in youngy's car). It however was not any worse than a extreme cushion button clutch. It does make a fair bit of rattling noise at idle with your foot on the clutch. PM youngy as he has one and is happy with it.

The std AP racing typhoon/tornado clutch is the way to go.... it's sensational. Look what F6 Ute's has put up with!!!!

the option 6 will handle what ever you can throw it, probably the strongest clutch available for the t, just be prepared to put up with annoying rattling either in neutrel or in gear with the pedal engaged. Driveability is not bad, definitly no worse than any other ceramic clutch I have used.

cheers, jason.

Yeah my gears in my gearbox rattle in nuetral due to the lightened flywheel.

I will be chasing more power later down the track so it would be comforting to know that I have a clutch which can handle the punishment.

Can the option 6 be rebuilt or does it have to be replaced when worn out?

The option 6 can be easily serviced and it has proven to be a very strong and robust unit. I can also supply the improved option5 which is a 10.5'' twin plate and it too can hold high power and torque. Mal
