Ak-47 Type Ping During 1st To 2nd Gear Change

Ok so driving the car round, give the car some stick, and there is a funny sound as it changes from first to 2nd. Sounds like detonation but yeh it cant be. Replicate the situation and it does it again, thinking its because I have the traction control on, take it off, NOPE still does it.

Now only does it between the change from 1st to 2nd gear at WOT and high revs. Can any one explain what is going on here ???

p.s I suspect its fuel, running BP ultimate 98, so I shall see if the next tank which I shall be trying mobil 8000 does it.

Mmm.

Im not sure about the fuel. I usualy find bad fuel just ups my fuel consumption and kills my performance.

I hope that's all it is though.

I have noticed bp 98 to be very inconsistant in my dealing with it previously.. So I only use synergy 8000, or vortex 98.. Dont really use anything else.

is this your first tank of bp98? or have you always ran it since getting your car..

don't try and replicate it too often, or it might end in

perhaps try some octane booster in the mean time and see how it goes? if it still does it, I'd be throwing it on the dyno and getting things checked out.

Did it come with a 95ron tune at all?? perhaps try that tune and see what happens?

Going to run this tank out and then swap back to using shell v-power which I ran the last tank, as the thing seems to be running real inconsistant, will also try it with a 95 tune aswell and see how it goes.

Mate, try it under full load in 3rd or 4th gears. If it is pinging, it will be more pronounced under a good load.

From my first hand experience with octane boosters - DON'T use the at all. The best one will increase your RON rating by 1 point if you are lucky and has a habit of fcuking the very exxy spark plugs by putting a coating of crap on them whcih will cause mis-firing and spluttering. If you really need anything more than 100ron rated Shell Optimax Extreme (or whatever they call it now....), get it tuned.

I had it under full load in 3rd gear last night when I went for a quick blast to the NT and back, and was all sweet, which is why it really concerns me... But interesting your point about the octane boosters, ive had issues with using them before and this thing idles sweet and I quite like that so I aint going to be venturing down the octane booster path now...might just throw some shell 100 in the next tank, see what happens, and if all is sweet give the mobil 8000 a go. If none of those work ive spoken to nizpro and they are quite happy to sort it out for me

that's what mine does every now and then, you may recall me writting about that in another thread.

Same thing only 1st to 2nd change.

I have also been using bp ultimate and think that it is the inconsistancy of its quality that maybe doing it.

I had been using nulon octane booster to cure this bad fuel batches and now that you guys mention it it has started to miss a little especially when cold. Maybe as you say booster fowling the plugs.

This is why I thought it was odd as RDP dyno day hot as all f*ck and it ran mid 11 AFR's all the way.

So I 'll give my plugs a clean and try shell fuel and see if it ever pings again.

I had a problem when running octane booster in a proton gti, thing was missing bad when cold, so I pulled the plugs gave em a clean put them back in and viola. Never ran octane booster since. Interesting how you say that about the BP, hope another fuel fixes it, saves me and nizpro arseing about for nothing but someone elses sh*t quality fuel
