My mate just got a BF XR8 about 1 month ago and when I asked him to open the bonnet, the whole brown plastic lever inside the car came off. Just snapped off. But thank goodness, the cable was still attached to it and so we just pulled the plastic lever with the cable and it still popped open the bonnet.

Now take it into Ford and get them to replace it under warranty, this is a known problem and they have a new, stronger bonnet release made for this problem.

Rob.

Yes it is a known problem, Ive done a billion of them, there was a revised bonnet cable, you will notice that one has a glossy finish and the other has a mat type finish, yesterday when I did one parts department gave me a bf cable to fit to ba, much better and no dramas in fittment, just slightly more meat on the rear clip that attatches to the rear of the fuse panel. A tip for you all with your bonnet release, which surprise surprise, not many ford mehcanics do (do to a published fix being in place from ford, limiting service action) is to remove the return spring in the bonnet latch and stretch is slightly, then refit for testing, then if necessary tweak a bit more. not really difficult in know, but makes a huge difference.

cheers
