just wondering what would be an average number of hours that an average mechanic would charge out to fit new rods in BF xr6t?

Do you want average rods as well :roflmbo:

Seriously, probably 2- 2 1/2 days, + parts, gaskets etc.

The engine has to come out, and top and bottom has to be removed to do this.

I have done it a few times, so above is a realistic estimate.

How old is your car?

While its out you might aswell go a set of forgies aswell  :roflmbo:

Not necessary unless you are aiming higher than 340 - 350 rwkw with a good tune.

I have run stock pistons with 343 rwkw and no problems, they only started to suffer after I pushed it to 360 rwkw, and then not even dramatically, just have a broken ring land or piston ring, but obviously need to be fixed.

So how many hours?

An hour to pull the motor out, an hour to strip the motor, couple to put it all back together, couple more to put the motor back in... that's 6 hours plus a few to bugger around...

10 hours?

Agreed, but allot of the time people wouldnt bother changing the rods unless they were going 340rwkw +, if your not planning to go over this power level the standard rods will not need to be replaced.

ok, so if were already pulling the turbo out and fitting a new clutch and a whole bunch of accociated crap, then it should probably only be say, a day and a half extra???

havnt bought the car yet, but im about a bees dick away from parting with my cash for a very nice one ive found, 02/06 build, trying to figure out a total cost for all the mods I wanna do and decide if its worth it :roflmbo:

I would say 16-20 hours all up.

4-5 hours removing engine

8 hours disassembling engine, changing all 6 conrods and re-assembling engine

4-5 hours re-fitting engine

Pity you are in Sydney, as I would have loved using you to remove and re-fit my engine in 2 hours!!!
