I am looking at buying a ba xr6 turbo. Was there any build quality issues with the xr6 turbos?I ask because I have heard that the ba falcon xt had small issues like the handbrake, power steering vibration, brake shudder etc.Would it be better to get a mark 2 ?

Hey, :roflmbo: to the forum.

I had a BA XR6 Turbo and didn't have an issue with the hand brake or the brake shudder. Mine did get the low speed steering shudder but that was easily fixed by Ford and it never came back. As for brake shudder, see if you can find one with the premium brakes package. That way you won't have a problem :spit:

They did have a few issues earlier on, but just get the latest built one you can afford as they're constantly revising things without waiting for a model change.

BA's and possibly BF's have had diff problems. Have a look at my post and others in the driveline workshop. Even the local dealer agreed there have been problems.

It's always better to get a later model if the finances can do it - at least the car will be newer with less chance for wear and tear.

However that being said - I have a BA Mkii and I still have had brake shudder and the low speed shudder - no handbrake problem though...

Both fixed under waranty (a warranty is something that BA Mki will be less likely to have - keep it in your mind I suppose)

I have a late model BA XR6 and really haven't had too many probs. The hand brake needs adjusting at every service but I'm not sure if the dealer is doing it properly 'cos it goes out of adjustment in a few thousand kms.

The BA Mk II had mainly cosmetic changes, apart from the 6 speed manual option. So I wouldn't go out of my way to get a Mk II. However, I believe there have ongoing changes to the turbo motor that don't coincide with model changes, so a late BA T should be better than an early one.

Also, try to get one with a few months warranty left so that you can get any issues sorted before the warranty runs out.

Even the BF's have the usual ongoing problems. It all comes down to luck and a bit of hit and miss. Some ppl get problems and others do not, but common sense says you should get the latest build possible as you will also get a longer warrnty, which on these cars is usually relied on at some point.

Most of just put up with the ongoing problems becauese there such good cars to drive.
