I'm not trying to hit out or anything but if one wants anything then one will spend the time within their means to find something suitable.

So the choice is ultimately yours whether you're after the BA or BF XR6T.

I wonder if the new Falcon Orion (?) will come in a XR6T? Last I read there's no planned V8..

Well I went down today for a look and a drive at the one in the ad above plus another one in Brighton.

Let me just say that my opinion on what is excellent condition and what someone else thinks are way off.

The one had scratches all over it and even both side mirrors had scratches all over them like if they have been scratched against a brick wall. YES ON BOTH SIDES.

I am 6'3' and after sitting in one with a sunroof my hair rubs against the roof which must be because the roof lining is lower. Sunroof is now out of the question as I found it annoying in the 15 min I drove it so there is no way I coud live with it.

The car also had 18's on it and had a big chunk missing from the rear tyre and rim and when driving it felt like the whole arse end was loose.

The guy was saying his last set of tyres lasted only 10000k's and that we should keep traction control on as he says it goes sideways really easy.

It was the first one I had driven and above 2000rpm the thing friggin flew.

The guy gave it an absolute flogging up Elgar Road and it was fast.

Dunno how you some of you guys go with over 300rwk.

I test drove another one which was in amazing condition.

Not a mark on the whole body and felt really tight and new.

It had the Prestige Leather (One with round pattern on it) and had Climate Control and all that.

It had 65000k's on it but was well looked after.

The guys wants $28K but we are thinking of offering $26K.

The interior on it was like new, the whole car was for that matter.

One question I do have is do all XR6T's have the adjustable pedals???

Cheers and thanks for all your input.

Will let you know how I get on.

Adjustable pedals are a factory fit only option and they are rather rare ASAIK.

Tyres do not wear out in 10,000 km on these cars unless the car has been driven in a particular manner. More like 35,000 km is the norm for city driving and that can include a more than a modicum of focused VLPD (very long private driveway) action.

The point about the XRT/F6 is that is does fairly fly... and... it goes about it's business without dramatics, histrionics, wheelspin, sideways action, thumping torque peaks or any other melodrama. It therefore does not shred its tyres. The car with the 10,000 km tyre life has spend a good deal of time operating with the traction control off, revving wildly, spinning its wheels and probably going (relatively slowly) sideways... it is all good fun for the... original... owner...

Factory options are expensive to buy on a new car and generally, though not always, even more expensive and a PIA to retrofit if indeed a retrofit is possible. The prestige sound, leather and climate control is a case in point here. The Premium/FPV/PBR brakes available for the BA however, if not a Factory option on the car, can be essentially retrofitted for $2,000+. They change the character of the car for the better to almost to the same extent as the turbo changes the character of the NA engine.

Get the car loaded the way you want and enjoy.

One more thing to look out for is a service record that shows frequent oil and filter changes. Most here would agree 7,500km intervals is mandatory and more frequent can not do any harm.

regards,

aa

Very valid point on the sunroof. The only way I can cope with the lower ceiling is to tilt the seat back further than I'd like to, so I'd never get one as it would sh*t me to tears

Oh and the fact that they are a complete wank as well

I thought the same as you when I first got my car. Then I got the edit which has kept me happy for a little while but now I'm looking for more again. The problem is you get used to the power so quickly.

I have to agree with others' comments re tyres, my BA XR6T auto got between 30-40,000km out of it's tyres (17") depending on type of driving encountered so avoid 10,000km tyre users.

As regards price $26-28,000 would be about right for the Lightning Strike as mine was an '03 with 61,000km in immaculate condition and sold for $28,000 to the first person to look at it. That was a bit over 12 months ago. If it looks to be in perfect nick it's probably a good buy.

I also have to agree with the benefits of the 6spd over the 4spd. Once you've owned the XR6T for a while and you're used to the ower etc, if you then drive a 6spd you'll know why everbody raves about them. They just change the character of the car for the better in all aspects, power, acceleration, smoothness, economy everything.

So do yourself a favour and hang out for a BF if you possibly can and you will not be sorry.

Well I have done it. I have now joined all of you as the proud owner (well almost) of a 2004 BA XR6T in Blueprint with the Prestige Leather, Dual Zone Climate Control, Premium Sound and Auto Lights. It doesn't have a sunroof but I would rather the (Zero) Leather Interior and Climate Control than my head rubbing on the roof.

Just getting it subject to a RACV Pre Warranty Expiry Inspection.

Here is the link to the carpoint ad (see below). I didn't pay the asking price but was lucky as the guy got a better offer after we made the offer and still kept his word with us which is great.

http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/FORD/F...csn1111070.aspx

It doesn't have 18's on it but for the price I paid I was stoked.

Best part is, my wife didn't like Blueprint, but after seeing it close up she was sold on it.

I will keep it standard for now, unless someone organises some sort of group buy on a Nizpro Cobra Stage 1 kit.

Thanks for everyone for their comments and input and hope to see some of you around out at cruise or something.

One last thing. I have just ordered a new set of number plates.

MYTXR6 in True Blue so they should look good on the car.

After I showed a mate he said why do you want MIGHTY XR6???

I didn't realise that at first as I got them as MY TURBO XR6 so it is good they have 2 meanings.

Might have to get that Nizpo kit to back it up though right???

Cheers and see you round.

James
