Nah, A manual is DEFINATELY out of the question.

My wife says I can get any car I want as long as it is an Auto so she can drive it.

I wear the pants in the house that's for sure, but she just tells me what size.

Cheers

James

Alright guys. I think I have found the one.

I sat in one yesterda that had Leather Seats but I didn't like them so I have revised what I am looking for.

What do you guys think would be a reasonable price to pay for the one below

BF EX Chaser turbos with the ZF box are currently going for around the 23k mark at Fowles Auctions in Sydney with around the 60,000km mark.

As said in a previous post even though they are not as common currently at the auctions, there will be a big influx of them in the next few months, so you will have a larger range to chose from in regard to kms, condition and colour.

Most of the chasers I have seen do tend to look a bit worn, but you get the occasional one that looks fine...

You might be getting something that might not be in top notch condition but if you can handle the little imperfections you might get on a chaser such as faded bonets and the occasional body scratches and holes in the dash then you are getting good deal.

As 23k for a current model XR6T is still very good value regardless of it being an ex chaser...

my last falcon was a ex cop el, had 39000k's and looked the part, by 43000k's, new motor, discs were warped, the repair job on the interior(where all the gadgets went) needed replacing....all done under warranty, but, the moral.....it was never the same. I promised I'd never buy anything owned by new south wales finest again.

I may have just bought a lemon, but it really opened my eyes to how much these cars get flogged on a daily basis.

I spent a fortune trying to get any ford technician?? to find a problem with this car for months after the motor was replaced. it surged all the time, frustrated the hell outta me, but always nothing. it even stalled totally on a trip home from melbourne, wouldnt start, called a tow, back to ford, fired 1st go.....grrrr

long story short, I still got the el, cept my little brother managed to magically drop the tailshaft out of it whilst doin "NUFFIN"??? still costin me $$$ after so many years

having blue blood is expensive!!!

this comming from a ford salesman. wait untill the 6 speed autos are cheap enough... be careful on ex chasers as some of these cars loose the ford factory warranty due to driver abuse... but that is why you can pick one up for $26000 they are thrashed but very cheap... if you wanted a project car that would get rods and pistons then I would jump on an ex chaser. otherwise I would wait for a company car to come of lease.

my 2 cents

Both the 4 and 6 speed auto up shift perfectly.

Both the 4 and 6 speed downshift seamlessly in smooth driving.

In auto mode during vigorous driving, the six speed downshifts and holds better than

the 4 speed. The four speed holds gear OK in performance auto mode.

You can largely control downshifts (and up shifts) in the 4 speed by modulating your

throttle inputs and signaling your intentions to the auto.

Alternatively, for the 4 speed, in instances such as a 15kph hairpin sequence,

you can invoke manual downshift by tipping the gear lever forward.

(and revert to auto for up shift).

If you drive with consideration for the nature of the turbo motor and the fact that the XR6T is a large, albiet exceedly well behaved chassis, then either transmission will do a excellent job in providing smooth driving and impressively high performace as and when required.

Regards,

aa
