I was pretty impressed to discover that the new Ford Bluetooth module is capable of streaming audio, including MP3, into the car's sound system. Cool. :w00t2:

AFAIK this is an undocumented feature. The Bluetooth module instruction manual does not metioned this capability.

Prior to purchasing the module I checked with 13-FORD. According to them the module did not have this feature.

In a Windows Mobile 2005 phone you will activate the feature. So,

1 pair the device if not already paired, select 'Wireless Stereo' and 'Hands Free'. (you may need to single tap on the FORD BT V05 icon to call up the services menu.)

2 go to Bluetooth Settings/Devices - select and hold FORD BT V05 to bring up the required menu. (this is a different menu to the one in step #1)

3 select 'Set as Wireless Stereo'

4 'MEDIA' will display in the ICC screen whilst the Bluetooth streeming connection is active.

5 A very small icon of a musical note will display inside the headphone icon (Bluetooth connected icon) on your phone.

There you are...

You will find that all your phone's audio is going through the sound system via Bluetooth.

You can control volume from the phone handset and or the car controls.

Sound quality is good. There may or may not be some compression in dynamic range and bandwidth - I am not sure of the degree of compression of the MP3's used for the testing. (Note, testing was conducted on a BAT with a colour premium ICC screen.)

Regards,

aa

post-6020-1174100037_thumb.jpgpost-6020-1174100071_thumb.jpgBluetooth Module Information

I had the Ford Bluetooth kit fitted to the BA MkII XRT. Here are some thoughts on it's performance to date

Cost

- $495 RRP including dealer fitting

Form and Aesthetics

- its simple, it's cool, it is one button - refer to pictures.

Voice Sensitivity Transmission and Noise Cancellation

- not sure about this as yet....

- excellent.... at times - mike picks up clearly from both front seats

- incomprehensible at others There are times when transmissions are simply incomprehensible to the party on the call outside the car. Repeatedly reconnecting the call does not solve the problem, however, switching to phone handset clears the problem and demonstrates that it is not a cell access issue.

I have referred this matter to the dealer who fitted the kit.

I am also working on the possibility that it may simply be related to ventilation fan speed ( fan noise).

Reception in Car

- is unfailingly clear even when the party outside the car may not be able to understand the transmission from within the car. There is minor alternator whine at times - I have referred this to the dealer.

Ergonomics and functionality

- good. Extent of controls is limited to a single button in the car. Calls transfer from the phone to car to phone is perfect. Call transfer from phone to car is automatic. One button interface does not suffer from excessive complexity (obviously) or excessive simplicity, good design.

In Car Display

- is limited to the word 'MEDIA' popping up where the word 'Aux' normally displays on the ICC screen when phone first hooks up to the car. The MEDIA icon is also displayed whenever a Bluetooth connected phone call is in progress and when the Bluetooth is set to steam audio into the car's sound system.

- System operation does not suffer from phone contact list not displaying on the ICC. If you are going to take your eyes off the road to drive the contacts list or the playlist, displayed on an ICC screen, you are going to crash; you may as well pick up the phone or look at the phone displayed on the phone presenter

Compatability

- All three types of phone tested to date work. (Sony Erickson/ HP Windows Mobile 2003 PDA phone/ XDA/02 Windows Mobile 2005 PDA phone)

MP3 Audio Streaming Compatability (undocumented feature)

- XDA Atom WM5 phone is also capable streaming audio into the Bluetooth module. This is an undocumented feature by Ford and is seriously cool.

Integration into BA and BF

- You get to keep the tissue box slot as well as the CD wallet slot.

- The Ford promo material may be unclear on this point, suggesting that the Bluetooth fills the tissue box slot - it doesn't. The thin facia only descends over part of the frontal area of the tissue box slot - there is ample room to insert the tissue box in behind the thin Bluetooth facia panel. (see pictures)

I would not buy the Ford BT kit as it is a ripoff.

You can get a Parrot CK3200 colour unit or even one with GPS for nearly 1/2 that.

Also as far as I know the carkit is mono only. Having fitted several kits into the Mobile plug under the dash, there are only 2 wires for the audio. The ICC will put the sound over the 4 speakers, but it is mono.
