I don't know exactly what the dealer have used in the engine, but assume it is a fairly cheap mineral or part synthetic oil.

Engine was moderately modified, I think to about 250 rwkw in the later part of it's life, and transmission was a 4 speed auto - Don't have the torque

Car would have been driven in a similar manner, I.e. no special warm-up procedure, and both cars were automatics.

My car was modified from only being a few months old, with first the CAPA 'Boost Box' then Chiptorque Xede, and latest CAPA Edit.

Power progressively increased from 200 rwkw to about 270 rwkw before the engine was removed for strengthening.

10000 - 15000 k's usually, sometimes a little longer.

Wish I got paid $30 p/h!

I use Castrol Edge 0W-40 in my XR6T and change the oil and filter every 5000km. Probably overkill but I plan on keeping the car for a while and would prefer not to have to rebuild the motor. I don't do many kms so I probably only do 2 or 3 oil changes a year so it's not that expensive when you look at it like that.

I have often thought the same thing as OP - why do people use big $ oil when they change cars so often. I guess it's for their own peace of mind as much as it is for the motor.
