I think the cheapest 1080p available is the Mitsubishi HC5000.

Just under $7K

I would also recommend the Panasonic AX-100. Given that this projector:

1) 16:9 native

2) Is 720p

3) Can accept a full HD (1080p) signal and display it (only in 720p/1080i) This will be invaluable if in the future you want to display HD-DVD or Blu-Ray media without having to fork out for a new display device.

I am currently using the Panasonic PT-AE900 (previous model) and have found it to be excellent. The problem I have now is that it will not display a full HD (1080p) signal :( I wish the AX-100 was around when I was buying.

Get a decent screen! It makes a world of difference. If a screen is not within the budget then as mentioned, projection paint (screen goo) will give an improved result.

As with all things... you get what you pay for.

Here's a snap of my setup.

"projector, personally im going for a Panasonic AX100 - does 720p and 1080i with HDMI/Component/VGA/sVideo inputs etc.. its an LCD so the panel will degrade over time but they are fairly cheap to begin with... might be a touch more than you wanna spend @ ~$2400"

LCD does not degrade over time. Only when the lamp is coming to the end of its life and needs to be replaced will you lose any picture quality

the actual LCD panel does suffer with age, being an organic based substrate it breaks down and contrast ratios and colour reproduction get worse ;

the globe is a separate issue common to all PJ's unfortunately..

sounds like the AX 100 will at least give you some future proofing, with it accepting a 1080p signal..

Just treat yourself. Put it on the home loan :spoton: You'll be glad you did, I know I get lots of use from my theatre room. Worth every cent IMO. Glad you like the setup.
