Standard Brake Pads

I have a 04 XR6 (run out deal) with standard brakes. It's spent most of its life cruising at 100 km/hr, but every now and then gets a real workout on some of the great back roads in this part of the world.

Having read this forum, I fully expected to have lots of drama with the brakes. I've had the rotors ground once in 65,000 kms to fix mild brake shudder, otherwise the brakes have been great. The front wheels stay pretty clean, and the brakes never seem to fade. They're not great when they're cold, but after a couple of stops bite well.

Did Ford upgrade the brakes after the early BA brake problems? I'll probably need some new pads soon, and at this stage would probably fit the Ford pads again. Or is there a better pad out there? (that won't cover my wheels in dust)

Not all cars had the brake shudder, my previous car was one of the first BA's off the line and I never experience shudder in all the time I owned it.

Plenty of choices for better pad's out there, been a few topics on it....

QFM LTM003

Ferodo DS2500

Racebrakes RB74

EBC Reds

Bendix Ultimates

Pagid Blue

No particular order and plenty of differing opiniion's on which is better.

No it doesn't void the warantee. If your discs are machined and you put new pads on, warantee won't be an issue anyway. My advise is to steer clear of the Bendix Ultimates. They will eat your discs for breakfast.

I am running QFM's LTM003's and I am very happy. Higher heat rated than the Ultimates and 1/2 the dust.

Cheers
