High Definition movie format player, something that's going to replace dvd's soon :)

It won't replace dvd's for at least another 4-5 years. People are still only just upgrading from their video players. It might not even replace it at all if the consumer supports HD-DVD instead. Standalone Blu Ray players are double the cost of a HD-DVD player because they had to develop all new technology for the Blu Ray; whereas HD-DVD is still using the technology used with current dvd's - the only difference between the 2 formats is that the Blu Ray discs can hold a lot more data.

Another thing that could hold back Blu Ray is the pr0n industry has decided to go with HD-DVD because of the cheaper costs of production. You may have a chuckle at this, but a similiar decision killed off the Betamax players in the early 80's when they were in competition with VHS.

At the end of the day it all comes down to the average consumer. Not the techie consumers that buy every new wiz-bang piece of technology to hit the market. The average consumer makes their choices with their wallets. They are not going to care one iota if the disc can hold 50gb of information. With Blu Ray players entering the market at $US 1000 and HD-DVD players coming in at half the price, I can tell you right now which one they will support.

That's why the PS3 costs so much. The BR player has bumped the price up so much that it's hurting sales. Sony are already losing $240 on every console sale so I can't see the price coming down anytime soon, at least until the cost of the technology is reduced.

Blue Ray though is not confimed as the HD video format yet.

It could be another VHS/Beta battle :roflmbo:

It could be another VHS/Beta battle :spoton:

:spoton: There's Blu Ray and HD DVD battling it out at the moment. Both formats have major backers. But Blu Ray may have an advantage thanks to Sony including a player in its PS3. Either way, I'll certainly be in no rush to replace my current DVD player until the new format is well and truly established.

Remember, many people backed Beta as it was a technically superior format, but VHS won the war thanks to clever marketing, etc. There's plenty of advantages to not being a new technology adopter!!

payed for my ps3 today and also resistance fall of man, looks awesome and plays great , also played ridge racer it's not my thing for the unrealistic game play(200 kph perfect drifts ect) but looked very good, you can tilt the control to look aound while driving, it started to make me sick.

it supports wireless internet and the one at harvey norman aspley is on line and works, so maybe this negates the no internet/online falicies.

also looked at other things it can do, it also can support (I think it's what he said) a linxus operating system so it can support other computer like software (correct me if you want)

bluray demo video was amazing the picture is perfect.

The blue tooth controller is much lighter and does not rumble anymore, you can also use blue tooth keyboard and mouse ect for internet access, the control worked from the other end of the store approx 30m.

only 10 days to wait!!!!!!! :idunno:

The blu ray looked fantastic at jb hifi, also give it a good year and you'll see what kind of games those developers will come up with, dont judge it now it just came out!
