just trying to figure out whats wrong with the stock item, and why it needs to be replaced ahem, besides us loving to spend money... why can t we just modify what the actuator `sees` with a simple ball and spring valve or bleed valve for that matter, set at whatever psi you desire?

ok I found something, seems like the stock actuator cant open the swing valve far enough (not enough throw) to allow suffient bypass at higher hp flow rates, to control boost, does this sound right? hence the porting mod and bigger swing valve usually done at same time for same reason...

so basically you could use bleed valve inline with actuator if you only wanted to change boost level, it just gets hard to control if your making big hp?

Bleed valve will not work on the xr6t as the computor will have a hissy fit and go into over boost if it sees a boost level outside it's set limits.

that's why you need edit or a piggy back system to control the boost.

As for the actuator when you are going for more boost it helps to control boost better with a higher boost unit.

if u have an edit/ flash tuner u dont need anything.

the factory fitted boost control solenoid is run by the computer, the only problem is that if u command too much boost it will spike. that's why we mod the wgate so as to hold steady at 15 18 20 psi.

you dont need an actuator to run more boost but if u want 15 psi u will need one.

on mine im running a bleed valve and I can get 9 psi with no spike but if I go any more it hits 15 and dropps off to 12.

the stock actuator is rated at 4.5 psi.

running this at 15 psi is way out of its opperating duty cycle.

to command 15 psi on the program its around 100% howerver if u fit a 12 psi actuator its back to 50%or so, making it easier to controll boost.

there are other reasons also. im no expert.

There is a boost solinord which is controlled by the computor this is where the duty cycle side of things comes in.

The computor controlls the actuator via this solinord by pulsing the solinord.
