Using 4.1 Gears To Match Ratios

I have done some calculations and although most people are saying that If I put 4.1 gears in my 4 speed auto BA that it will be too short and the turbo wont load properly. I have worked out that with 4.1 gears I will have similar max speed in each gear as the ZF. I know I will lose highway economy.

Around 67 in first and 114 in second where at the moment with the 4 speed it is 82 in first and 132 in second.

I feel second is too tall to have fun with.

What does anyone else think of this?

Talk with Brian (BCL). He has crunched the numbers on ratios of diffs and gearboxes.

It just makes my head spin!

FWIW I don't think you can treat this as a straight gear ratio comparison, but, we need to hear from one of the auto experts.

AFAIK, the torque convertors in each case act as a part of the gearing (especially at lower revs), and, the two torque convertors in the comparison have a quite different character. There are many variables involved...

Yep, you see you can work it out for yourself ... now you just have to decide what is right for YOU.

The options have already been explained for you and Brian has done his 4.1 diff but with a manual box so it isn't going to help you at all. BTW, he also found 4.1 was a bit too short for the manual.

As this has already been covered I think this thread is just going to end up repetitive so I'll end it right here.
