Hey guys/gals

didn't know which forum to chuck this thread in but since its engine related here it is

I've been looking at some oil additives and wanted to get some opinions about them and anyones experience with these products good or bad and do they even work at all?

Looking at nulon products as I'm looking at aussie products

the 2 products are

1. Nulon long term engine treatment E30

2. Nulon Lifter free and tune up

thoughts? comments? would be appreciated

cheers

If you use good quality synthetic oil you do not need any additives.

I was warned off Nulon as it creates a layer on metal components. While this reduces friction, apparently it creates a thermal layer that can cause long term damage.

I have tested most of the additives and none seemed to be worth the money unless you are trying to dodge up an old car to sell.

I have found the Nulon engine flush excellent for cleaning out older engines. Oil stays cleaner for much longer if you use it on a couple of oil changes...

How do you find the octane booster? Any significant gains?

To tell you the truth, I can't notice any performance gains but, it does prevent pinging in case I get a batch of bad fuel, especially in hot days. :spoton:

I only use it when I plan on going to Calder Park wih my 'Extreme Tune' loaded. :w00t2:

I don't see a need to use it any other time. :spit:

Interesting. In a similar pro-Aussie fashion, I've recently switched to Nulon 10W-40 full synth, away from Castrol Edge 0W-40. I've also been using E20, and have emailed Nulon re: Zaps concerns about any long term damage due to the PTFE coating. I'll post their response when received.

That said, I have an EF that still runs on its original engine (and makes 160rwkw) even after more than 300,000kms and an incident involving sudden oil starvation. With a failed oil light, music at volume and no oil (ie driver NFI), the car was driven unsympathetically for a further 20 mins. Make if it what you will.

If I find Nulons response insufficient, I may cease using the E20. I'll keep using their 10W-40 though - has a lower friction coefficient that Castrol Edge, and recently cost me only $40 for 5 litres (this being their top tier oil).

As they say,

Below is Nulon's response regarding the suggestion of possible engine damage due to the use of their PTFE engine oil additives (E10, E20 and E30). Question was asked about E20 specifically.

  Nulon said:
Thank you for asking, as it gives us an opportunity that we would not otherwise have to defray such rumours. We have been selling E20 for almost 27 years. I think that by now if there were such a problem, or even a hint of it, we would know about it. Such a claim is completely unfounded. Unfortunately such rumours are started by less successful competitors.

Thank you for supporting Nulon.

I'll still be using E20, no plans to stop. From personal experience, it has saved an oil starved engine in the past, so even from an "insurance" point of view, is well worth the asking price. Not sure if it could save an oil starved turbo, but you never know.
