Hoping that someone can help me here.

Wife of mine jumped in the car yesterday and before driving off noticed on the dash that the engine warning light came on. I am away offshore at the moment and coincidentally rang at this exact moment. Anyway I asked her to look in the owners manual before going any further. As she described it and had found in the owners manual, it is for the electonic throttle control. I thought it would be okay to drive home though as the car was still driveable according to the manual (as far as I could make out on the phone from 2000 km's away). She was 50 km's from home with bub in the back ready for bed so needed to get home.

Anyway turned ignition off, restarted car, light disappeared and car ran okay all the way home.

Does anyone have any idea on what could have caused the problem? ... or

What is causing it?...and

Do I need to take it to dealer?

I found an earlier thread from 2002 but nothing else.

I'm still away until later this week but need to find out what the problem is so that I can rest easy.

All help & contributions will be appreciated greatly

I had this problem from time to time, eventually the car went into limp mode and rang Ford who had it flat bedded to dealer who initially thought throttle position sensor but ended up replacing the entire throttle body, no probs since.

Throttle Position Sensor fault, very common and should be replaced under warranty. I have had mine replaced twice and each time they cleaned out the throttle body for me too :spoton:
