Hollywood actor Eric Bana will drive his treasured Ford Falcon XB GT coupe in the Targa Tasmania tarmac rally in April.

The star of Chopper, Troy and Munich has owned his beloved car for 23 years and has just completed a major two-year restoration on it.

Bana, who made his Targa Tasmania debut in 1996, has taken time this week to familiarise himself with the roads to be used in the 2007 tour around the state.

Event director Mark Perry says Melbourne-born Bana has shown good form in a range of motorsport events.

"Eric is a good steerer and the car he has prepared is an absolutely beautiful piece of machinery," Mr Perry said.

He predicted that Bana could sneak into the top 10 "if he has a good run".

Bana said he would relish the chance to be behind the wheel rather than in front of the camera.

"The car has been a labour of love, really," Bana said.

"Targa Tasmania is a fantastic showcase of classic cars, and I reckon our XB GT Coupe should bring back a lot of good memories for many of the fans watching the rally as it makes its way around Tasmania."

SWMBO's Uncle has prepared the car for him for Targa, he prepared the 996 Porsche that Eric drove for the past two targa's as well.

Don't think Eric has don the work on it himslef, just forked out the cash.

Nice guy though.
