Guys,

I picked up my "T" on Friday. I have done 500km and the average is showing 13.5k. But have not really given it to it as yet. We will see how we go.!!! B)

My XR6T at the moment with 1250kms. is only reaching 18L/100kms. I reckon its a little too much if you ask me, where my wifes modified subaru twin turbo wagon has better fuel economy and power.

OK - I've made somewhat of a "discovery" with why the fuel economy is not so good. This is referriing to the autos only - ....

The "map" for the torque convertor allows the engine to immediately jump to 2000 rpm wheneveer the throttle is applied - this occurs regardless of what gear or shift mode is selected.

I assume the reason for this is so the turbo is ready to spool and boost up as soon as anything over the slightest throttle is applied - good for responsiveness but poor for economy.

With the manual I expect the driver would have more control over this aspect of throttle technique and should get far better economy.

Hi All

We were really concerned about fuel economy and as the web site didn't have any figures, I emailed Ford and they sent back the following response. ;)

Thank you for your email. We can provide the fuel consumption figure for the Barra 240T. The XR8 Boxx 260 figures will be available at a later date.

BA XR6 Sedan 4.0L Turbo (Manual 5-speed) City Cycle (L/100km) : 11.56 Highway Cycle (L/100km) : 8.46

BA XR6 Sedan 4.0L Turbo (Auto 4-speed) City Cycle (L/100km) : 12.54 Highway Cycle (L/100km) : 8.16

BA XR6 Ute SSB 4.0L Turbo (Manual 5-speed) City Cycle (L/100km) : 11.72 Highway Cycle (L/100km) : 8.42

BA XR6 Ute SSB 4.0L Turbo (Auto 4-speed) City Cycle (L/100km) : 12.69 Highway Cycle (L/100km) : 8.41

Please note that the following reference applies to these figures as well (as stated in spec sheets):

"These figures are obtained from controlled laboratory tests conducted by Ford Motor Company of Australia Limiteed to Australia Standards AS2877 - 1986 and are provided to assist you in comparing the fuel consumption of Falcon with other vehicles. The actual fuel consumption you achieve will depend, however, on many factors, including your driving habits, the prevailing conditions and your vehicle's equipment, condition and use. Figures based on Falcon XT with automatic transmission."

cheers

The utes are actually 60kgs heavier than the sedan.

If fully laden with fuel, they are heavier again because the ute has an 80 litre tank.

don't forget the drag on the tray if one doesn't have a tonneau cover fitted.
