Your Verada sounds atypical - or else you have a very heavy right foot and a supply of spare licences!

My brother's company runs Magnas, all now are 3.5 autos. My brother and his colleagues do a mix of city, suburban and long distance country driving. In the country, their vehicles average about 8.5-8.9l/100kms, city about 11-12.

My other brother has an 6 month old XI Verada and returns similar figures.

Yeah mate, that's more in line with what you would expect given the relative lightness of the car and front wheel drive.

Ours was an early run of the still current body shape so maybe they didnt have the engine as sorted as it is now.

We just completed a run from Sale to Merimbula and return averaging around 10lt/100km, or nearly 30mpg. And that's with a lot of hilly roads and many overtaking manouverous on full throttle. Cant ask for much more than that. :)

Mondie,

That's a 10/100 klm in the XR6T?

I am lucky to get that in the EF2 I drive now. I would be more than happy with that economy.

Yep, its pretty darn good. But this was nearly all highway cruising, with a town/country mix its more like 12lt/100 which l am still very pleased with.

l reckon a Melb-Sydney haul along the straight and boring Hume would see the car crack the magic 30mpg barrier.

Economy and power. Well done Ford :)

with 2,800 on the clock, I am constantly returning between 6.6 & 7.2 kilometres to the litre. My AU never moved much more than 7.7 to the litre under identical driving conditions. So a 10% increase in consumption from a heavier vehicle with a sh*tload more grunt is more than exceptable.

My only gripe about the car is that with the ability to consume fuel at the rate that it does it should at least have the option af a long range tank. My service manager has shown me the tank under my car. Yes it's an engineering feat to place it were it is, but I can imagine the bigger engined cars or even when those of us opt for a power upgrade at some stage, there'll be times when your tank range will leave you scratching your head wondering if you've got a hole in your tank other than the one which feeds the engine.

See you later all Scott.

Around 7 litres per 100 kilometres is unbelievable, to achieve that sort of figure I would need to drive the EF as though there was an egg between my foot and the accelerator peddle and just sit at 80kph.

What sort of cruising speed is that consumption achieved at?

I think you've mis-read the post. "6.6 & 7.2 kilometres to the litre" not 7l/100km. Works out about 13-15l/100km I think.

Would be nice though....
