I have got it down to 10.7L per 100km's on my last trip back to Sydney last night...

Funny thing is I left it in Auto mode for most of the trip. Along a flat road when I checked the real time figures Perf mode used more fuel at 2500rpm than Auto mode done at 2500 rpm....

Well Cro, you will always use more fuel in perf mode because you are in THIRD gear. Fourth is locked out below around the 150kph mark I believe. :D

You'll probably find it cheaper to run if you leave it in Auto most of the time.

Cheers

Craig

Sorry I should of said Manual mode.

I was in fourth gear.

2500 rpm in Manual mode uses more fuel than 2500 in Auto mode.

Just goes to show you that the auto is a smart auto also.

For general daily driving (& I do a lot, both city and country) you are really not gaining anything from using the auto as a manual except in the following circumstances.

1. Holding a gear for uphill, downhill or stop/start traffic.

2. Giving a quick flick over to performance mode for an upcoming (quick) overtake.

3. Having a bit of fun on a closed circuit track.

4. Blowing away many a surprised SS, big brother XR8, and many other pretenders. (legally of course)

Mack.........

I use it to compensate for the brakes...

I can not bring myself to stop such a heavy car on brakes alone...

Plus the fact it is dead boring when you don't have to change the gears... Damn women!!!

Lemme see if I get this: 4th gear in 'manual' mode (ie, stick to the left, and you chose 4th) uses more petrol than 4th gear in true auto mode?? Can that be right??

4th manual mode is not in torque convertor "lock up", so your road speed is lower than 4th gear "auto" mode, at the same RPM.

Hence your litres per 100km will be higher because it will take you longer to do 100km at a slower road speed.

4th in Manual mode is exactly the same as 4th in Auto, right down to the torque converter, which is engaged even in manual! Actually you'll notice it comes on in 3rd too!!!

If you're reading off the instantaneous measurements it would be very hard to tell if one uses more than the other. I'd personally say it's the same and maybe it's coincidence that it appears different
