So if you're coming from St Kilda Rd along Albert Rd, you need to slip left into the service lane before you reach the intersection of Albert Rd and Clarendon St, otherwise you might have to do a U turn to try again to get into the service lane. Route map has the location of the meet point as well.BRING: Jacket (Might be a cool morning), Camera, CB Radio. Reminder that parking costs $2 all-day along Aughtie Drive (which makes up the Grand Prix track) on Sundays. This is your chance to line up your XR among other XR enthusiast's and have that opportunity to take a photo shoot which you will only get the chance once a year. Just imagine the line of XR's/FPV's down the main straight with all the stands and signage as a drop for the back ground, knowing the following soon the thunder and roar of F1 cars will be belting down at speed's inexcess of 300km/h. This date will be the last day for the public to access the track when it will be closed the following day. After the photos, we will be doing a half lap with either EvilDaifu and/or myself taking video footage of the XR's going around part of the track circuit. After this, morning breakfast will be held at Deveroli's in Acland St, St Kilda (table reserved) for a chance to talk with other members. You can leave anytime you like. Some have said they might go to the Motor Show and others might be interested in the St Kilda foreshore open air market along the Esplanade.EvilDaifu went down on the 27th Feb and took this photo of the main straight with plenty of stands up already so you can just imagine what will it be like on the day we go.ROUTE MAP:We plan to have following happening (depending on existing parked cars and other traffic on the public road):- Possibly 3 photo opps ING, ING and QANTAS gantries on track (maybe only 2 if Lakeside Drive QANTAS gantry is fully closed off on Sunday as silverchris has advised via Parks Victoria pamphlet).- Possibly 2 vid opps on track (S Bend and then Half Lap)All up - should be about 30 mins (we drive slowly at 40km/h limit on track). Please note that public parking costs $2 for all day parking on week-ends alongside the public roads that make up the actual track circuit (everywhere else we go will have free parking). Please be conscious that his is a multi-million dollar event venue in preparation, so there will be security watching us at all times.BREAKFAST at Deveroli'sAbout 8:30am at 129-131 Ackland St, St KildaIt would be appreciated if you would please let EvilDaifu know by post or PM if you will be staying for breakfast so that the table booking can be finalised.Deveroli's serve a mean St Kilda Breakfast for $13.50 and coffees are $3.70Example Items on MenuMeat Breakfast - 2 eggs, bacon, chipolata sausages and scotch fillet on toast $13.50Deveroli's Breakfast - eggs with bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms & hash brown served on toast $12.50Veggie Breakfast - eggs (fired, scrambled or poached) with grilled tomato, mushrooms, hash browns, spinach & backed beans on toast $12.50St Kilda Breakfast - Slice of toast with bacon, fried eggs, chipolata sausages mushrooms and spinach $13.50Eggs Florentine - English muffin topped with spinach, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce $11.00Maple Syrup Pancakes topped with Fresh Strawberries $10.50Hot croissant with Ham, Cheese and Pineapple $9.00Aussie Omlette - Onion, bacon, mushroom and cheese $14.50HCT Omlette - Ham, cheese and tomato $12.50HISTORY: The Melbourne track, is contained in a park, the layout smooth and flowing, with no 90 degree street corners to break the speed. It runs clockwise around a lake, and the scenery is breathtaking, the circuit well liked by the drivers.Damon Hill, still all charged up from his victory in the closing race of the 1995 season, continued where he left off at the inaugural event in 1996 after his new Williams team-mate, Jacques Villeneuve, was forced to slow at the end of the race with engine problems.1997, Melbourne's' second year, Villeneuve looked was firm favourite to win again for Williams, after dominating qualifying by a massive margin. However, he was taken out on the first corner by Eddie Irvine, and so David Coulthard raced on to McLaren's first win since Adelaide in 1993 and the first with Mercedes power. The 1998 Grand Prix was dominated by McLaren Mercedes but ended under a cloud. Once again Coulthard looked set to win, after team-mate, Mika Hakkinen, lost time in the pits. Learning of the Finn's predicament, Coulthard controversially slowed to let Hakkinen regain the lead and thus honouring a gentleman's agreement the two had made before the race. Fans left bemused.1999 saw Eddie Irvine take his first ever win for Ferrari while the Italian team were on top again in 2000, this time a one-two with Michael Schumacher claiming his first ever Australian win and then new team-mate Rubens Barrichello. The 2001 event was marred by the tragic death of a safety marshal after a collision between the BAR of Villeneuve and the Williams of Ralf Schumacher. Michael Schumacher went on to take his second victory in the land down under, making it a hat trick in 2002. Being at the start of the season, the track is well known as a debut for many rookies, and local driver Mark Webber was immortalized when he crossed the line in his debut race in fifth place last year.Coulthard took what is likely to be his final F1 race win in Australia in 2003 while Michael Schumacher was back in control in 2004 leading home team-mate Rubens Barrichello in what would be another dominant season for Ferrari and Michael's seventh championship success. Heavy rain fell during qualification for the 2005 event ensuring those that had been fortunate to qualify early on in the 60-minute session would start up front. Starting from Pole Position Giancarlo Fisichella got his career at Renault off to the perfect start as he took the chequered flag ahead of Barrichello who has worked his way up from 11th position on the grid.Due to the timing of the Commonwealth Games, Melbourne has lost its slot of being the first race of the season in 2006 to Bahrain. Still, the race was one with its fare share of drama as pole-sitter Jenson Button's race ended in a cloud of smoke and flames at the very final turn while second placed Raikkonen recovered from a broken wing in the early stages. Through it all came Fernando Alonso to take victory once again for the Renault team. The 2007 Australian Grand Prix sees the race return to it traditional slot at the head of the Formula One calendar.
