Hi everyone I have a problem which seem a little weird and my service depaartment have been unable to fix so I am hoping someone else may have experienced this and can point me in the right direction.

I get an intermittent shuddering in the front end with the steering wheel shaking quite a bit. This occurs at around 100kmh and as I said is intermittent. If I apply the brakes when this shudder occurs then it become more pronounced. However when applying the brakes at 100kmh when there is no shudder evident I do not get any shuddering which leads me to think the brakes are not the cause of this fault.

I have had the wheels balanced twice the tailshaft balanced and wheel alignment done. Can anyone give me some clues?

I am glad you have raised this topic. I have exactly the same issue, and am getting sick of having both my 18's and my 20's balanced. Even after having the tailshaft balanced, it was still there. I am getting my rotors machined today to see if this makes any difference. Will let you know how it goes.

Guys,

I have it as well, have had since new, only 5,500k's on the clock, had all the wheels balanced and drive shaft. After the driveshaft balance it felt ok, however about 3-4 days later it started to come back but intermittently. Has now re-established itself as if no change since the driveshaft balance.

Vibration comes on after 80kmh, worse at around 100, and is hard to detect after 120.

Can feel the vibration in the steering wheel, and on the ZF shifter- not happy Jan!

Any change /work done to fix your problems?

Back to Ford for more warranty work. Me thinks this is going to be along haul to rectify. After from this no other problems to date.

Isn't it great when you can bring back an old thread that hasn't been solved yet, I'm having this exact same problem with steering wheel shudder. I've had the wheels blanced and still no good, I can't see the tyres lasting very long if I just let it go. Did anyone have any luck fixing the problem?

its a tuff one mate, I had a similar problem as well, funnily enough it went away and came back a couple of times...

Try checking all the pressures and alignment and also wheel bearings, since your car is a couple of years old now I wouldn't count it out. To be honest the ford wheel bearings are pretty crap!

I'm hoping it's a fairly inexpensive fix, if not it could be her last chance. Pedders are meant to know there stuff, hopefully they might be able to shed some light.

I've found the best thing when it comes to vibrations, is to get the mech into the car and show them the problem. It always helps, so they can confirm that there is something there, and they may have had a similar problem before
