byi Donating Members 159 Member For: 19y 6m 2d Posted 01/03/07 05:44 AM Author Share Posted 01/03/07 05:44 AM Cost me $525 delivered from a company called BrakeBlitz based out of Melbourne. I think they are on ebay, if not email brakebitz@iprimus.com.au. I dealt with a guy called Cam who was very helpful.←Was that price for clutch only or did it come with a new flywheel as well?←Hello, I noticed in your sig "Rip my T5" may I ask at what power level did your transmission started to give way and what has been your solution to date?Cheers,

Posted 01/03/07 05:51 AM Share Posted 01/03/07 05:51 AM I have a Mal Wood Option 3 in my car (changed from T5 to T56), organic single plate clutch with new flywheel and their alloy CSC.I had a T5 in my car, but funds at the time allowed me to change it out for a T56, I did so for reliability's sake, as I knew with the power I had planned it just wouldn't last... I have a mate in QLD who has a T5 equipped XR6T ute and he is now in the middle of doing the T56 swap, he is running just over 300rwkw, and his first 3 gears in the T5 now sing like a bird.Be very careful mate with the power (torque) you are planning... the conversion to a T56 isn't a cheap one.Jack

I spoke to Mal wood who recommended his option 2 clutch, a 10.5'' H/P clutch kit which features a Ceramic / Metallic clutch plate, which will hold the power however I have been advised that this clutch can shudder. What other clutch alternatives should I consider?Cheers,←The option 1 MWA clutch kit features a High/Performance 10.5'' pressure plate and our High/Performance organic clutch disc and our Alloy CSC, cost is $910. This kit will hold around 280 rwkw but won't stand constant abuse neither will the T5!!From experiance we know that you just CAN'T fit a new clutch to the BA/BF models without fitting an Alloy CSC. MWA has a range of clutch options but we chose not to do a big range for the cars with the T5 because the transmission just will not hold. The option 2 cera/metallic has better holding capability but can be prone to shudder. Mal Wood

Cheers,←The weakness in the T5 I believe is in the input shaft that runs through the gearbox, it's too thin, when you modify these cars the torque produced is what kills the T5, it basically bends the input shaft. And in the end if you keep on going with it you end up with a box full of neutrals... unable to select any gear. Jack

However, if you don't drop the clutch, and belt it every single time, then you can maximise the life of it. I always get paid out for not "going hard" but I don't see the point when I only wanna keep the car a year or two max. If I was still gonna keep it past then, I'd do the T56 upgrade now Mind you, if my mates are willing to buy the gearbox, then I'll blow the T5 to pieces as soon as I can
