Brought a set of QFM's for $90.00, car goes in tomorrow for 15K service and disc machine (std. discs). When car comes back will put QFM's in straight away!

bloan I'm so proud of you, I hope it works for you, I really do, finally someone who's decided it better to spend a little coin than drive around unhappy.

Sorry, I hope no-ones got the wrong impression, I certainly dont drive around unhappy I love my T regardless of mostly easly fixed problems. But I do feel while under warranty its Fords problem not mine. I feel fairly sure if the fix was as simple as a pad change Ford would do that rather than continuing to machine.

Mine have been machined twice, the last occasion(about 19000kms) recieving the shim and tensioning fix. The car now has 25000kms and the shudder has returned.

But, $99 bloan has spent, money which will be spent at some time on new brake pads regardless, unless your car will be sold before it wears out the OE pads. I'm sure your time is valuable, try the QFM's, what if it fixs it? A problem solved for $99, have a go mate!!

I have trouble believing that the standard pads once hammered from disc warping would ever again be much good. Happy to be proven wrong, I am.

NT TURBO I couldn't agree with you more but for peace of mind and avoiding what could be an ugly situation dealing with Ford service managers I am quite happy to fork $90 and possible fix this problem!

Time will tell & will let everyone know of the results.

Something that no one has mentioned I believe is the fact that everytime you get the discs machined they become that little bit thinner therefore I think the problem exacerbates itself!

Hi,

Just reading through the posts I can not find anyone mentioning the symptons to brake shudder. Is it a shudder on the brake pedal when

applying the brakes or is it a vibration through the steering.

I have had my XR6T since Nov-2003 and have done 9000km

so far, mostly doing 160km a day from home to work. 100km of this

is on freeway and the reaming in city traffic.

I have not had any problems so far of any kind to need a warranty

service check. Only annoying thing was the intercooler pipe running

under the Battery casing was banging/rattling on idle. Some cable ties

moved the pipe 1mm from the battery casing and no more sound. I am sure the Ford service guys wonder what that is for !!

So if anybody can give some symptons as to the brake shudder

problem I can be prepared to notice what it is.

Just a thought, if you use non ford brake pads and they warp again, they may not cover under warranty cos they may say it was the after market pads that's caused the problem????

I love my car, don't get me wrong, but I'm not spending money on bits and pieces that arn't proven yet to solve the brake shudder issue.

As of this week we have done 20000 km on the dba gold series disc's with qfm pads and have not had any sign of the shudder since the qfm pads were fitted.

I'm now at 15000 since fitting front slotteds and bendix ultimates.

No shudder, and I used to get it every 1500km or so. So a minimum tenfold increase in distance between machine jobs, that makes me happy. Even if I have to get them machined at some point down the track, going back to the dealer less often is a good thing. :finger:

I've had DBA 4000 series slotted rotors and bendix ultimates all round on mine for a couple of hundred kays and besides not having to worry about brake shudder I have far bettrer performing brakes than the lame standard ones. Much more bite and no noticable fade (in street use anyhow). For just over 1K fitted, it's a bargain and a great solution for those with troubles
