I read a paper this week published by Prof Spiegel who is a behavioral scientist working in the Automotive industry. His paper discusses the variants in driver behaviour when braking.

To cut a long story short, the behavioral habits of the individual driver can result in a totally different circumstance. Even though the vehicles are built exactly the same if you brake too weakly, too shallowly, too late, too strong, too long, or too often your going to get a different result.

One pad will work perfectly for one guy and not the next and the same goes for rotors. It's a difficult situation to be in.

These discussions only display your options not a sure remedy. :hrmm:

I was told the NT Police vehicles get a different pad but not for the warping, to stop fade.

Bendix has the Police deal tied up with Ultimates.

The police think 6000 kms is good for a set of brakes though. Highway Patrol not GD.

I read a paper today about the australian police departments have assessed the xr6 turbo and will purchase them over the xr8.

they would not purchase them with standard brakes even though ford insist that the standard brakes would be adiquite for there purpose(what a laugh). so all there xr's will come with premium brakes.

KTFORD

what can I say mate. you obviusly haven't been reading all the post's or you wouldn't make such a stupid comment.

as I said before I can aford to upgrade the brakes myself, but if we all became lilly livered paying for our own fix's and did not complain about a manifactural fault then ford would not fix anything.

someone has to make a stand and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this way.

the brakes are crap to start with and they don't get mutch better after they are skimmed.

as they have been skimmed five times now I don't think there is much left.

the perminant fix only lasted 5000km the same as the other times they where fixed.

the blood is boiling Mr Ford and it's only getting hotter.

As I have said before replace the ford pads with QFM type pads.:thumbsup:

Ian

Hi Ian,

being a brake newbie, can you provide me with some info on a brand that you can specifically recommend for these pads?

I have an oct build T and although I dont have any shudder, the brakes are the weakest part of the car design by far. They dont feel powerful enough.

Took the car around mount panorama at bathurst the other week and at the end of the hill going up the mountain the brakes just didn't feel good enough to stop the car properly...

Will the pads alone make it stop better?

thanks

Hey guys, I've had my xr6 n/a for 5 days now, and last night I took it into the city, and noticed a shh shh shh shh shh sound as I drove around. Is that the brake shudder everyone goes on about?

Today I popped my bonnet and saw white stuff(which I assume is coolant) on a few parts down past the exhaust. Is that the water pump problem??

Cheers

Bob

PS - Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.

Hi Bob

The brake shudder takes a few thousand k's to develop and is apparent only when braking. It starts as a mild vibration, often felt thru the steering wheel, especially when braking from speed. It quickly deteriorates and can become a violent shudder that shakes the whole car. Your symptoms sound more like handbrake adjustment causing the pads to rub on the discs when driving. Fordtech has posted a note on the correct adjustment technique. Worth searching for before seeing your dealer.

The coolant is emerald green - not white. Any coolant loss should be apparent from a drop in the level in the reservoir - but only compare cold with cold or hot with hot. Don't know what the white stuff is maybe some sort of residual assembly lubricant or just non-specific glunck? Doubt if it's anything to be concerned about, but see your dealer if you are worried.

Cheers

zeke
