Somebody in the engineering dept needs their @rse kicked. Enough of us togeather could get an ACA story on this. I know David Margan, see how slow FMC is to react then, especially with an independant engineers report. Ford your T rakes suck
Venom XR6 Member 1,460 Member For: 21y 10m 13d Location: Geelong Victoria Posted 07/01/04 11:21 AM Share Posted 07/01/04 11:21 AM I've had two BA XR8's and haven't experienced brake shudder but my dad's XR6 has. I have heard that all new BA's have had a fix in the form of moving the callipers and therefor pads further off the discs to stop the problem. I can't confirm that but if that is the case it would explain why the old XR8 I traded in on my new one 3 weeks ago had great brakes and while my new ones feel crap. They feel very spongey and need a decent shove to get them to work effectively. They feel as bad as the brakes I had on my EB. If this is Fords fix then it is a very poor effort as it has totally eliminated the previously good brake feel and power the earlier brakes had. I will try to drive a few new ones to confirm wether they all now feel the same or wether it is just my car. Ford have a team who have researched the problem of brake shudder and they now claim they know more about brake shudder than anyone else in the Ford world so a decent fix shouldn't be too far away, lets hope it is a proper effort and not a half arsed cheap solution they usually do in these situations. If moving the callipers further off the discs and stuffing up the feel is the solution then god help us all as my brakes feel very weak compared to all the other BA's I have driven. I think its the pads. skiming a disc is the cheapest option for ford. I think they do it because the pads are "glazing" in much the same way as a clutch can. I machined my flywheel twice... shudder issue still there. then I replaced the brass pucks and the shudder went away. by machinig the discs, theyre hoping the new surface will strip the pads a bit. its a cheap fix
