For those of you experiencing "handbrake squeal" just as a suggestion why don't you try stopping with just the hand brake at slow speed a couple of times to try an eliminate the squeal?

After 17000K's with no evidence of shudder I was thinking I would be lucky enough not to see it... Now, especially when breaking at low speed, there is a noticeable shudder in the steering wheel...

Think I'll wait till the oil change at 22,500K and get them to fix it then along with a noise in the front passengers door..

The theory being it might stop the annoying sqealing by bedding itself in? No I haven't tried this myself, but should ever I do I will try this first. What do you have to lose?

Stopping with the hand brake may stop the noise for a very short time may be 1 to 2 hours but that is all I have tried this with our old auxr6 and some customer cars.

It will also make a load clunck when you do it.

It is the same for the holdens,camry,magna was well it is the design and material of the hand brake unit which is designed by pbr I think.

8000km's and 4 months and it's started shuddering...

It's only very slight at the moment, but the next scheduled service isn't due for a while, so I guess it's back to Ford some time before Christmas...

Has anyone tried the DBA Longlife discs with the standard Ford pads ? I must admit that I like the dust-free pads - I know that it would be a compromise, but given that the DBA's appear to be shudder free, if I leave the factory pads in, would I get the best of both worlds ?

The rotors are great, BUT you should get aftermarket pads, the standard pads arent great and they also cost $200 to replace.

Since the permanent fix....no sign of shudder coming back. Maybe it is a real fix. I've done about 3K since the permanent fix and before that it was being machined every 1500KM. Time will tell. I don't want to have to pay for something that I have already paid for. Ford are also going to replace my discs when their life is up because they have been machined 3 times.

Hate to be the spoilsport here, but I had the 'fix' done 6000 klms ago and there are hints of it's return. 4500 of this was highway on a very recent road trip, however, I am now noticing the beginning of the shudder again. It is primarily at a light pedal pressure at the moment, with a hard application not seeming to cause too many dramas at this stage. My shudder used to return every 3000klms or so, so I guess it is an improvement, but definitely not a fix

She is going in for the 45 service next week and it will be looked at again then. I'll report after this has been done.... not expecting any exciting developments though if history is anything to go by.
